Who paid for the bandwidth on YouTube? Was the format unique? |

As YouTube was just bought by Google, I was wondering whether the format of YouTube was really unique, and copyrighted, or if anyone could produce a similar website.
I liked it cause you just log on and the video started playing no need to wait for downloads and component upgrades to view stuff with.
Does anyone know who was paying for all that bandwidths or how it was being paid for?
Regardless of all that, congrats to the guys who started it!

I met a couple of their people at an Apple conference a long time ago. I was pretty impressed with them.

I know some people who save music appearances for a artist website and it's been a struggle to keep the videos available for the general public.
