Who is advising Bush at this time ?
Unfortunately, I do not think any moderates have his ear. David Frum has an article in this morning's NYTimes and I fear that is the advice Mr Bush is receiving.

If so, this could deteriorate even more rapidly than it has thus far. A sample:
=================================
"It is, alas, an iron law of modern diplomacy that the failure of any diplomatic process only proves the need for more of the process that has just failed. Thus those who have long supported negotiating with North Korea are now calling for the Bush administration to begin direct talks with the Kim Jong-il regime. Sorry, but all this would accomplish would be to reward an actual proliferator in order to preserve the illusion that the world still has a meaningful nonproliferation regime.

Some even suggest, in worried tones, that the North Korean test might provoke Japan to go nuclear, as if the worst possible consequence of nuclear weapons in the hands of one of America’s direst enemies would be the acquisition of nuclear weapons by one of America’s best friends.

A new approach is needed. America has three key strategic goals in the wake of the North Korean nuclear test. The first is to enhance the security of those American allies most directly threatened by North Korean nuclear weapons: Japan and South Korea.

The second is to exact a price from North Korea for its nuclear program severe enough to frighten Iran and any other rogue regimes considering following the North Korean path."
======================================

Isn't this exactly the wrong approach?

7. Those Neo-Cons are just itching to nuke a city or country, aren't they.
I can see them watching the Mushroom Cloud in their Home Theaters on Wide Screen and schrieking and clapping hands sort of like the Enron Traders dealt with "Aunt Millie."

Something is so sick about these people and that so many should remember the horrors of WWII from their parents or in Kissinger's case his own experience that it boggles the mind. When the "persecuted" becomes the "persecuted." There must be some psychological name for that mental derangement.

How many folks agree with them, though. It seems they still run many of our Democrats. How can this be changed. :shrug:

12. think back 6 years, did you feel safer then?
duh

So what have these guys brought us...a horrid terrorist attack on our own soil, the scorn of the rest of the world, a war which now seems hopeless and will lead to more of the same (scorn, terrorist attacks). And they expect us to listen to them?

Will someone please put the adults back in charge instead of these "sky is falling" chicken littles?

What Frum misses is that diplomacy was working under Clinton.

Think about it: who are you most likely to listen to/respect/not want to piss off; the person who is at least still talking to you or the person having a temper tantrum by refusing to speak to you hoping to bully you into submission.

Bullies cause me to dig in my heels and fight harder. My guess is these neocons have caved to bullies all their lives so they think countries work that way too. Doesn't work that way in the real world.
