7. George Allen
He started out insisting all nominees deserved an up or down vote. I guess that wasn't the case when it was Clinton appointees. :eyes:

Oh, and he told the Dems to "bring it on" re: the fillibuster.

14. All nominees deserve that up or down vote?
What about Harriet Myers? Is Allen's memory shot, or does he think we're so stupid that we don't remember that little fiasco? Either way, it's pretty ridiculous for anyone on the R side of the aisle to pretend that the up or down vote is some sacred little bovine.

is a little scary. I thought one of their roles was protecting the minority from the tyrany of the majority.

35. That was the role of the constitution...
if you follow the will of the people, you aren't necessarily following the constitution, especially when most of those who "will" put pressure on you for certain decisions have never read the damn thing.

Allen clearly hasn't. If they uphold the constitution then the minority should be protected as far as the constitution allows.

75. I "think" the Democrats have enough votes for a filibuster.
They only need 41 and last I heard they had more than that. The only problem IS....getting them to actually DO IT. They fear the "nuclear option" that the repukes SAY they will use. I say call their bluff. They won't do it. If they do use the "nuclear option", the Democrtas can bring the Senate to a stand still and the repukes will not be able to push through the rest of their shitty agenda.

62. Well, it's been fun so far, but...
I'm gonna go pass out for a bit. Hopefully I'll see you all again later on this afternoon and I'll feel more up to snarking at the rethugs.

now." I know I'm paraphrasing. It sounds like Sen Byrd & others will be going after the Company that ran Sago & MSHA. :hi: :loveya:  :pals: :woohoo:

81. Viva, I noticed you have to go.
To 'take over' all I would have to do is start thread number 4, right? I will do that, with your permission. I can't promise I'll be here for thread number 5, but there are plenty of others here, to whom we can pass the torch.

Let me know and I'll start it. Looks like we need the new thread about now.

Lasher

isn't this supposed to be a floor debate on confirmation?

If so, it would appear that we are looking at is a filibuster in action.

106. Nah, he'll tie this to Bush and eventually to Alito.
His state has been hit hard by mine accidents. We really can't blame him for using his moment for it. (Do hope he'll get to Alito soon, though.)
