600,000 Send Letter To NBC: Stop The Anti-Christian Bigotry.
"Thus far 614,553 individuals have sent an email to NBC asking them not to show Madonna's mocking of the crucifixion of Christ and to stop censoring Bible verses from Veggie Tales."

Maybe http://www.mediacoalition.org/reports/wildmon.html">Donald E. Wildmon's American Family Association ActionAlert really did result in 600,00 emails. If so, it would sure be fun to have that email list!

1. Talking vegetables are blasphemous.
If God wanted carrots to talk he'd have given them mouths.

19. If you like to talk to tomatoes, if a squash can make you smile...
If you like to waltz with potatoes up and down the produce aisle . . . Have we got a show for you! Veggie Tales, Veggie Tales, Veggie Tales . . .

We like Veggie Tales in our house, but I didn't even know they were on Saturday am television. I'm sure my kids didn't, either. Why watch them there when there are ads on to try to get my kids to want everything they're selling when I can get the DVD and watch ad-free?

don't they? Why not write fundy letters and get paid a fundy stipend?

I certainly don't believe 600,000 real people wrote NBC. There aren't that many fundies that know how to… Oh, I'll be nice.

23. Madonna Clarifies Crucifixion
by Natalie Finn
Sep 21, 2006, 8:30 PM PT

As Tori Amos once asked, "Why do we crucify ourselves?"

Well, Madonna, for one, does not do it for spectacle. Nor does she strike the pose because she's suffering from a "spiritual crisis," as multiple religious figures have suggested since she started suspending herself from a cross while onstage this year.

11. The Family ActionAlert is very power thing
It is the reason why the far right is able to influence most media outlets. For over ten years the crazy christian conservatives have put a lot of time and money into their keyboard attack machine.

12. What the heck are Veggie Tales?
Are these people mentally disabled? Because I can find no other explanation for the fact that these concerns were the spark that lit a fire under a half a million people who took the time to express their anguish and pain by email. Beyond normal belief.

The deaths of thousands of American soldiers and Iraqi citizens barely register in their Happy Meal brains...The utter moral decay and corruption to be found in the halls of government make no impression in the wet cement that's their brains...The permanent disenfranchisement of the American voter due to illegal vote tampering is a fact that sinks to the bottom of their brains without ever coming up for air...That e-coli between their ears...Holy Mother of Turnipheads!!

13. Christian based cartoon
Very popular here where I live. Because the kids going to church on Sunday morning, Monday night Bible study, Wednesday night services, and Friday evening to avoid secular weekend activities just isn't enough.

15. Veggie tales are pretty mild and quite funny
it seems to be the only "Christian" cartoon with a sense of humor and some wicked song parodies. I've watched them with my kid (we aren't particularly religious and are quite sensitive/wary of proselytizing in any form) and they are actually kind of cute.

As far as Madonna goes, I do find it odd that her hanging on the crucifix is ok, and Veggie Tales comments about Jesus are not. And I'm about as far from a RW wacko as you can get.

18. Not being a viewer, I'd guess NBC is appealing to a larger demographic
than brain-damaged fundies who do not make up the majority of the viewing audience howevermuch they wish to think the world revolves around them.

But more to the point, it's their stupid focus on brain dead issues that really merits my scorn and ridicule.

34. oh, yeah, I agree fully
but there is kind of an odd contrast between what they will allow and what they won't and who knows who makes that decision and why.

I think it might be that I'm sick of Madonna's attention grabs - their satiric or social commentary nature tend to be obscured by her need to shock and for attention.

I'd actually rather see Bob the Tomato than her, he's funnier.

22. Any so-called "Christian" who complains about Madonna's cross thing
obviously didn't see it.

If they had, they would have seen that it was a very thoughtful, respectful part of the show dealing with sacrifice and suffering for those who are sick, poor, and helpless. The whole thing ended with a scripture. It was very moving.

Madonna knows more about Christ and Christianity than these morans do.

27. Yup. My thoughts exactly.
If you have seen the performance, you'd realize that she's drawing attention to the millions of children who are either born with HIV, or have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. You'd think that these Christians, who claim to always be thinking in a child's best interest, would be spending more time signing petitions, or calling upon their government to do something about these beautiful children who don't have the resources they need in order to cope with their lot in life.

600,000+ hypocrites and counting...

35. The City of Chicago is predominantly Catholic and Democrat.
And by predominantly, I mean the 75% or higher range. The vast majority of far-right Christians reside in the outlying areas. Until all this hubub about right-wing evangelicals made it to the news, I never knew there was such a thing. Everyone I grew up around who had religion was a Liberal Catholic or Jew.
