some time after this election (which from the way it looks will probably be stolen again) or when we don't have an election in 2008, I wanna know how many of these guys have houses outside the US to run to - especially the Dems. Are they gonna bail when the feds start rounding people up who dare to vote or speak against this admin? I mean, I wouldn't be in their position without a backup plan. Just an interesting little fact that would be nice to know.

Let me add: Forgive my depression, but who can look at the news and get too much of a bounce out of it once you realize it all depends on the machines?

2. sorry for my pessimism
I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in my pessimism. I know it is not attractive. So many DUers maintain a hopeful attitude toward the upcoming elections and seem to be genuinely persuaded that if only the Dems can get another crack at running things we will see a swift and thorough purging and a return to the Constitution, and honesty in government.
Even though I support the efforts of people at DU, I personally am convinved that our government is and has been a sham for many decades and that neither party is truly steering the dirction of our nation but that both are in the thrall of elite corporate entities and international banking interests who weild real power through their control of finance and production.
Most people are fatally distracted by the politcal Punch and Judy show to realize that the real action is taking place behind the scenes.

4. Don't expect so much.
I still have a lot of friends who are repuke supporters--because unfortunately I used to be a repuke supporter (For a long time--all my adult life, up till the invasion of Iraq.)

Every time I try to persuade them that the repukes are a bunch of criminals who should be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail, I always get "Well, what about the DEMOCRATS?? They're WORSE!"

Which is baloney. The democrats are NOT worse. Now, there is a branch of democrats--I call them the big-money democrats--who are as bad as the repukes. But the real democrats are not afraid to come down hard on those bad ones. And I admire that. (See: Joe Lieberman.)

Anyway, here's ALL I want out of the election at the moment: I just want the democrats to achieve a majority in at least one house of congress, so that they can get subpoena power (or, um, like, ANY power.) Then I want to see them use it--and oh, they will.

If the democrats ever horrify, repulse, upset, worry, scare, and disgust me as the republicans do now, I will abandon them. But I don't expect that to happen. And regardless of whether I ever become angry at or disappointed with the dems, it is a fact that I will never, ever, vote republican again. The republican party deserves the Carthage treatment: to be eradicated, and have the ground salted under its feet.

5. I've gotten very pessimistic about the elections in the past few
weeks. It's not usual for me to be so depressed. I just can't seem to find some optimism. I hope I'm wrong (I usually am!).
