It's better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission... |
|
That's what George W. Bush thinks of American Law, as he's now taking the stance to change the name of the program from Domestic Spying to Terrorist Surveillance and is beginning the process to ask Congress to change the laws to legalize the program.
Ask any other criminal who's been convicted and who says they were acting in the best interest of their fellow citizens if they asked the court for forgiveness and asked the lawmakers to change the law. Did they still have to go to jail? Did they get to behave above the law? I think not. I'm sure the soldiers who tortured prisoners at Abu Gharib have been forgiven for their roles. They were doing it for a good cause weren't they? Maybe we should change the law to allow torture?
George W. Bush needs to answer for his crimes. Plain and simple. The House of Representatives needs to indict him with Impeachment, the Senate needs to try him, and the Chief Justice needs to preside over it. It is the duty of America and it's system of Government to prosecute those who would offend our system of law, no matter who they be. If we do not, American Democracy is officially dead, and those who allow it to die are complicit in its destruction.

Is it the "better to ask forgiveness..." part or something else?

from wiki: He always ends his nightly show with this enigmatic aphorism, "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission." So I guess it is a bit different. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Ward
