Iran Blames Bombings on U.S., Britain

Associated Press
http://www.startribune.com/722/story/204522.html

TEHRAN, IRAN (AP) - Iran's president on Wednesday blamed "the occupiers of Iraq'' - inferring the United States and Britain - for two bombings that killed at least nine people in the southwestern city of Ahvaz.

The foreign minister said the bombers were supported by the British military, which is based in southern Iraq. Ahvaz has a history of violence involving members of Iran's Arab minority.

State television said President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued a decree ordering his foreign minister and intelligence minister to investigate the possibility that "foreign hands'' were responsible for Tuesday's blasts inside a bank and outside a state environmental agency building. Forty-six people were wounded, the official Islamic Republic News Agency has reported.

"Traces of the occupiers of Iraq is evident in the Ahvaz events. They should take responsibility in this regard,'' state television quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.

1. Actualy, he didn't mean the USA AT ALL.
He made SPECIFIC REFERENCES to the "occupiers of BASRA" - the BRITS - and said NOTHING about the USA...

I am afraid we will be seeing A LOT more misreporting before the March 6 IAEA meeting...

2. Traces of the occupiers of Iraq

Iran's president is playing the same game Bush has in suggesting a link between the perpetrators of the invasion and occupation of Iraq and sectarian violence in his country.

Bush sees al-Qaeda in every incident. It serves his manufactured mandate as supreme dictator protecting our freedoms. Same with the Iranian prez.

edit: You're right. Brits were singled out, not Americans or Bush.

3. Regardless, you make a valid point.
Ahmedinajad MUST attempt to discredit both USA and UK while garnering as much support as he can before the March 6 IAEA meeting and any attempts made by the "Coalition of the Killing" to refer the case to UNSC.

He isn't making many friends outside of the Arabic world with the anti-Israeli rhetoric, however...but many openly recognize the blatant hypocrisy inherent in his rhetoric: On the one hand, Iran, signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Agreement that GUARANTEES them the right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful means. On the other hand, Israel, who refused to sign the NP Accord, already possesses between 200 to 500 nuclear weapons IN DEFIANCE of some 140 UN resolutions, etc...

Besides, the Shia imams, mullahs and clerics of iran LOVE to hear this shit from him, so its a pretty good way to consolidate his power...
