7. Lindsey Graham said yesterday:
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Democrats were treating Judge Samuel Alito unfairly and urging their members to vote against him to turn decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court into a campaign issue.

“I’ll just tell you right now we welcome that debate on our side,” Graham said. “We’ll clean your clock.”

In a later statement, he said, “It’s disappointing to see the Judiciary Committee break straight along party lines. ... What’s going on with Judge Alito is not advising and consenting. It’s about politics. And that does not bode well for the future of the judiciary.”

In a sign of continued contentiousness, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said, “Lindsey doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

5. I just can't figure this one out...
I try to be careful about getting on Dems' cases about something they really can't control, but they have some power this time. It won't be easy, and in the end they can still lose anyway, but really, what the hell do they have to lose? What in Gawd's name are they thinking? What possible reason could they have NOT to filibuster this freak?

6. And how! I can't believe this is happening...
no boldness. Fear and self preservation is not a trait any American wants to see from a public servant representing them.

8. And Nader said there was no difference between the Dems and Repubs.
"Bush has a 36% approval rating and Dems afraid to filibuster Alito"
Somewhere there is a wisp of a hint at the truth of that Nader observation

13. After reading a lot of the threads on this issue and after checking
the blogs for what it's worth I think most of the Senate Dems DO want to filibuster

It really is a question of whether or not they have the votes

We are talking about 1 or2 Senators

That's it

Beyond sad

Tragic

17. Dems have to fall in line on this one
There probably isn't a more impactful vote then the one they are about to make in terms of the long term direction of the SC. Other then Nelson, who is a Repuke in Dem clothing, they should be able to marshal the other 44 votes which is more than enough for a sustained filibuster. They need to leverage the fact that Bush's approval is in the toilet, and the illegal wiretap issue is an achilles heel that could bring down the whole frikkin adminstration.

19. Unfortunately, unlike the repukes,
the Dems have a select few that DON'T EVER FALL IN LINE!!!! Ben Nelson is an asswart, but look at where he comes from, not exactly like they are inclined to keep him in office for even leaning a LITTLE left. Not that I am saying that is an excuse, just that you can kind of see how SOMEONE LIKE HIM happened. But Lieberman, Connecticut, WTF??? Why doesn't Connecticut throw this guy out on his ass in the primaries?

15. of those dems who won't fillibuster, whats approval in their districts?
National polls are meaningless. They are swayed by the people who actually vote for them.
