Anybody reading Cormac McCarthy's new novel "The Road"? |
|
A father and son wandering, trying to stay alive, after some apocalyptic event (appears to be a nuclear war).
Brutal. Terrifying.
It should be required reading. GWB and his ilk would be gone.

1. I've been wanting to read this since I first read about it... |
|
I guess I should just go ahead and get it (tho' in my defense, I'm trying to finish the also great "Octavian Nothing" by M.T. Anderson, and, ah, finish a book of my own...

2. First I've heard of it |

I found No Country for Old Men a bit unsatisfying, but I like McCarthy's style so much that it was still a pleasure to read.
Did The Road just come out? That seems like an unusually quick turnaround for McCarthy! I'll have to check it out ASAP!

5. I felt the same about No Country For Old Men-- |

I liked it, but not as much as his previous books. But, hell, even when the story isn't great, his writing still amazes.
The Road came out last month, I think. I was also surprised at seeing a new book so quickly.
Be prepared: It's hellish. His writing is much more terse, but the themes are more devastating than anything he's written before. And yet there is a strange tenderness and beauty to it--you'll see what I mean.
Enjoy!

But I'm still reading "The Places in Between", and next up is "It Can't Happen Here".
