It's Hillary stopping the filibuster (IMO) |
|
I just read the raw story piece where aides were saying there's more interest in the NSA story than Alito. What pops up in LBN??? A huge article about Hillary and Bush eavesdropping. She's the one that wants to change the subject. That's what I think. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=2065183&mesg_id=2065183

2. What good is it Hill, when Alito is FOR Bush's eavesdropping? |
|
Dumbasses.
Kerry put out the word to pressure more senators, now I know what he's dealing with. He put out the word he will support a filibuster so one of the darn Judiciary Dems would start one. I also know now why media worked to shut up Kennedy with all those personal stories the past two weeks. Shut up the most likely Dem committee member to filibuster.

vote on the Senate floor. As totally unlikely as that is, that would be really sweet!
Kerry now speaking!

She isn't. That says it all. But if it isn't enough, she just said her constituents aren't talking about Alito, which is exactly what Raw Story referred to.

Why do you have to put it all on Hillary.
I agree she can make a difference but she is also right. The regular people out there really don't see how important this is. Right now they are trying to figure out how to pay their gas bill.

9. Because she has political power |
|
Because when you read between the lines as to what gets into the media and what doesn't, it has her name written all over it. She knew the only way to defeat Alito was with a filibuster and din't want to take the risk, that's why there was no real case made in the media. Because Clinton people CAN do it when they want to. I've seen it on more than one occasion. Think Howard Dean. That's why.

They will want to know how come we didn't take a stronger stand to protect them from this judge. Leadership is about making unpopular decisions once in a while. And this one stand, for a filibuster, would go a long way in demonstrating real leadership.
The DLC issued the statement not to filibuster. Who more than Hillary is affiliated with the DLC?

I'm generally not a Dem basher. I get pissed at Dem bashing, from all corners. But there are consultants and strategists in DC who actually do have the ability to make some waves, and we didn't even get ripples, so I think it's fair to try to figure out why. She's the 08 frontrunner, so it's the logical conclusion.

all the rest of the knuckleheads up in there are perfect little angels on this issue. Hillary is the only one who is stopping ALL THOSE OTHER SENATORS from voting down the fundie encrusted Alito.
Big BAD Hil has all those tiny tiny helpless Dem senators all hemmed up in a corner crying to their mommies for help and praying to God she doesn't strike them all dead from her mighty rod of political power. Those poor little weepy Dem Senators don't have the strength to prevent Hil from taking over their minds and telling them what to do. BOO FUCKIN HOO

What will matter is their vote on cloture.
No one senator can start or stop or prevent or create a filibuster. It actually takes forty-one to vote no on a call for cloture.

Raw Story posted a story quoting senior aides as saying there was no real outcry from the public. She is the one who made a point of mentioning that in her speech. Coincidence? Raw Story also said the public was more interested in NSA. An article was just released today about Hillary and the Bush eavesdropping. Coincidence? Not her or any of her surrogates appeared in the media or made Alito statements. Coincidence?
You can't use the excuse of no public outcry when you didn't do anything at all to get the public to understand why they should be concerned.
And how do you know she isn't using her political power to sway people to oppose a filibuster? Not just Senators, but Congress and Governors and other Democrats too.

36. Politics isn't about power? |
|
It isn't about moving into this camp or that, based on who holds the power, the campaign purse and the budget purse? I certainly don't think anybody would vote based on her say so alone, but she sure can bring pressure to an issue. She just didn't on Alito. Show me where she did. It isn't just this Alito thing, it's other things too. Look at the reported Democratic views in the paper, particularly the WaPo, look closely. Who do they sound like? Over and over. Hillary.

And she also said that the "American people are counting on us not to be a rubber stamp."
I agree, Hillary. This is why the Democrats should filibster Alito's nomination.
Evidently, the Dems do not have the numbers which may be why Barbara Boxer said yesterday on Eddie Schultz's show that we need one or two Republicans to come out against Alito and it would be a breakthrough and give some life to a filibuster."
An interesting comment, perhaps quite telling.
