SurveyUSA: McCaskill leads Talent 51% to 42% (MO Senate)!

In an election for United States Senator from Missouri today, 10/12/06, Democratic challenger Claire McCaskill leads Republican incumbent Jim Talent 51% to 42%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KSDK-TV St. Louis and KCTV-TV Kansas City. Since an identical SurveyUSA poll 4 weeks ago, on 9/14/06, McCaskill has gained 3 points and Talent has lost 5 points. McCaskill's advantage has grown from 1 point to 9 points.

1. She seems like a great woman.
I saw her interview on CNN or MSNBC, and she was so warm and friendly. They then cut to noTalent and his typical reich-wing rhetoric. Hopefully, MO will have a new friendly Senator! :woohoo:

10. Talent slanders and Iraq war veteran
I was just going to start a new thread with this information but felt your thread would be a good place for it. No wonder McCaskill is ahead:

After all the campaign's dirty tricks in 2004, I thought I had seen it all. Was I ever wrong. Turns out the Swift Boat Veterans could have learned a thing or two about ruthlessness from Missouri Senator Jim Talent.

I read today about Jim Talent's efforts to slander and demonize a young veteran of the war in Iraq, a man named Josh Lansdale. That young man's only transgression, the act for which Jim Talent thinks he should be publicly branded as a liar, was that he fought bravely in the war on terror and then spoke out at home about the mistreatment of veterans.

Some of you may have seen Josh's ad on television. In it, he talked about how when he returned home from the middle east with an injured leg and post-traumatic stress disorder he waited more than six months for an appointment with a Veterans' Administration doctor. His wait was the result of cuts to veterans' programs made by Bush and the Republican Congress-- cuts that Talent supported.

When Talent should have been apologizing to Josh, his campaign manager Lloyd Smith instead went so far as to call Josh's claims "a fraud":

“McCaskill can settle this right now by providing the media with the veteran’s appointment schedule as verified by the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Kansas City. If she doesn’t, Missourians are entitled to believe the ad is a fraud and that McCaskill is not telling the truth.”

Genuine, funny, great answers, poised...Senatorial! I was so happy I sent her another contribution (my fourth) right afterward.

14. Yes! We need a lot more women in the Senate and the House.
I'm fed up with being "mis-represented" by men.

19. Here's to hoping the libertarians like this guy draw off plenty of votes
all around the country, especially in the Southwest in places in Texas and Arizona where Dems have a chance to pick up a few seats.

22. 50% is the Golden Number
At this stage of the race the lines have pretty much divided...90% or more of the electorate is decided, it's that middle 10% that makes the difference. Now if that 10% is split, neither candidate wins 50% of the vote and the election can go either way, but once a candidate crosses that 50% threshold, the game changes...that indicates the person not only is holding their own base, but has taken a substantial numbber of the undecideds...and, yes a very good omen overall.

Inversely, any incumbent who is under 50% at this stage of the race is in trouble. Under 45% and we're in upset territory, which is where Talent has sat for months...as has DeWine and Burns. Macaca Allen is closing in on that magic mark as well. Thus consider any challenger who pops over 50% this late in the race as well positioned to win and any incumbent who can't nudge over 45% is in serious trouble.
