I called and thanked the Senator for coming out against Alito. I strongly urged him to support a filibuster and asked how the Senator stood on the idea. He said that is up to the leadership to decide.

So then I told him to tell Nelson to slap Harry Reid for me, and he just started laughing. Between gigles, he said, "I'll pass that on to him, but just not quite in those words".

I called Sen. Kerry's office one more time (I think Harry's aide was beginning to recognize my voice). When I told him how disspirited I was - that this WAS the big fight - he said "bye" quick and hung up.
