George Soros is the anti-christ for repugs. Why? He's on
Charlie Rose tonight and seems very credible to me.
I know, he poured bucks into the last election, but he sounds fine to me, and has a global
opinion about the world, something most people don't have.

10. Okay. What makes him bad, then?
Honest question- I have heard, heard only, some, shall we say, interesting things about some of his investments.

Everyone else on this thread so far is giving him nothing but praise, but I know better. Nobody who is as wealthy as he is gets there with a shining halo 'round his head the whole way.

With that in mind, what's "shady" about the investments of Soros?

(My scepticism isn't for political reasons; it has its origins in the personal. Let's just say I've been burned one too many times by one too many people and I want to know who it is I'm trusting.)

11. His motivation is questionable
A lot of people think that the main reason for Soros taking a stand against George W. Bush, is not related to politics, but because George Soros' Harken Oil bought George W. Bush's Spectrum 7 and that company was a fraudelent vapor company. The problem with frauds is that somebody needs to pay for it and in this case it was George Soros who had to paid for George W. Bush's fraud. So the question is whether it is motivated by political disagreements or was it because Bush was the only person who managed to screw him out of millions and this is Soros's revenge.

Soros can be described as a ruthless opportunist, and the most famous scandal is that he crashed the British Pound. On September 16, 1992 Soros and some other investors traded so many billions - literally unprecedented amounts - against the pound that the British Pound had to withdrawn from the European Exchange because the Pound was about to crash completely. He made over $1 billion that day, however the British government lost £3.3 billion and the interest rate had to be raised from 10% to 15% in one day. This resulted in the United Kingdom going into a brief period of recession and many small investors lost a lot of money.

The reason is that Soros and others wanted the Pound to be part of the Euro and the United Kingdom wanted to remain independent and because the British Pound is significantly stronger than the Dollar, Euro and Yen nowadays, it was a wise decision in retrospect. The whole Black Wednesday was a show of force - and a way to make fortunes - where a group of billionaires lead by Soros showed that they could take down the British economy if they wanted to.

George Soros is a complicated character, however he is also one of the major forces against Bush and he literally said that he will spend his entire fortune to bring down Bush, but he is not a nice guy and he is probably not doing it because he likes the Democrats, he is doing it because he hates Bush and operates according to the principle that an enemy of my enemy is my friend. And I guess that's the best way to look at Soros. He is a friend because we share the same enemy.

That's not the way they believe things ought to be. It tips their world view.

6. He's wealthy and he's liberal.
What else do you need? They pretty much think they should have the monopoly on rich people using their money to promote their political agendas. They only want rabid RWers to have any kind of influence. I think they see it as disrupting the natural order of things.

7. So the repug rich people are not only realizing the tax benefits
for rich people, but they are annoyed when/if a liberal finds fault with it or uses their influence to suggest it's not right?

9. He speaks too many foreign languages.
He was born in Hungary and was not satisfied just to speak Hungarian, but had the nastiness to also learn the bizzare "One World" language called Esperanto. He then sneakily used the Esperanto gimmic to excape
Soviet occupation by participating in an Esperanto youth congress while skipping to England where
he couldn't even learn proper English.

Now he dares lecture us in English even though he can say nucular the way our President says it.

It's really quite simple.

12. No matter his background, his themes and points really
resonated with me -especially when he said that Bush just has to go, that he is having a negative effect on the entire World that will take many years to undo.
