Foley scandals - is there more to "fear"?

Is there more going on than meets the eye with Foley? Did GOPers keep Foley in the closet because they feared the "gay bashing" label? Or did they over look Foley's foibles for other reasons?

at the moment we see the GOPers trying to hang onto the "big tent" concept and still pander to their fundy base with anti-gay rhetoric.

but is there more to Foley than just pedophilia charge? We know that Reynolds and Rove "urged" Foley to run again - was hanging onto a congressional seat the only reason?

There have been a couple of posts which imply a link between Foley and 2000 (s)election with Florida.

As much as the GOPers are trying to downplay Foley, are they really trying to keep a lid on something else? And what about the gay staffers - how much do they know about other going-ons?

is the real fear not one of being labeled as "gay bashing" but rather that an even larger scandal is being kept in the closet?
