This Is Funny: Man in KC Who Just Got Bush's Leadership Award
has been put on probation for selling drug paraphernalia from stores he owned in Sedalia, Mo and Kansas City.

Jan H. Fichman agreed to forfeit $440,000 to the government as part of his plea agreement in US District Court in Kansas City.

His attorney, JR Hobbs, said it was "somewhat ironic" that Fichman was notified earlier Thursday that he had received a national leadership award frofm President Bush.

Fichman and his wife, Anita Fichman, owners of 7th Heaven retail music stores, were indicted last year for selling pipes, bongs and related items. Jan Fichman pleaded guilty in May. Prosecutors on Thursday dismissed the case against Anita Fichman.

US District Judge Nanette Laughrey imposed probation for two years.

(I've been in the 7th Heaven in KC and they did sell pipes and bongs and stuff - but they were only for use with tobacco. If you used any word pertaining to drugs while in the store you would be thrown out)

got hauled away for 'conspiring' to sell glass pipes. Un-effing-believable! But where was the outrage? It must be true that flouride makes you passive. We are a nation of sheeple.

edited to spell tommy chong's name right (tommy chong of cheech and chong)

4. "Somewhat ironic" or "par for the course?"
Seems Bush has a habit of pardoning petty drug dealers and scammers. He's just lookin' out for his homies.

5. The feds have been after 7th Heaven for years now,
Along with the few remaining head shops in this state. But Jan was a bit more in your face with his operations, and now it sounds like he either got set up, or took things one step over the line, where the feds were waiting to pounce. Sadly it will probably shut down a fine retail establishment that also sold music, furniture and clothing. So much for that leather futon to suprise my wife:shrug:

Here in Missouri, I know the owner of Aardavarx, and she too also walks a fine line with the feds. Hopefully she'll take note of this and realize that the political climate dictates that she tred with care. Of course it helps that she has an attorney and the local NORML head in an office right above her.

6. Yea, I wondered how 7th Heaven stayed in business for so long.
They had a whole room full of pipes and bongs and papers and all kinds of stuff. It wasn't just a few items under the counter somewhere.

But you are right about the records they carried. They had an amazing selection.

9. I've been kicked out of that 7th heaven
for laughing at the guy for getting pissed at us for using the word "bong".

Some things you just can't let go without being a smartass.

Wow, look at the cool bongs!
"They're not bongs, they're water pipes"
Whatever, they're bongs.
"If you say bong again, you have to leave"
Hey, is that a church bell? I just heard something go "Bong"
"They're not bongs, they're water pipes, and you have to go"
no, they're church bells, and they go 'bong'
"You'll have to leave now"
For talking about church bells? You'll burn in hell you heathen scum!

And we weren't even stoned at the time. Sheesh.

10. Oh, you couldn't use the "b" word in that store.
We were warned about that, too.
