and she was against Meirs, and EVEN ROBERTS!!!!!!

...but she supported Alito wholeheartedly.

I was really glad to hear him make that point!

34. Senators are announcing their vote.
Clearly along party lines. Nelson (D) voted FOR Alito.

I predict that NONE of the "moderate" Repubs will vote NAY. Party line vote means that the filibuster is the only way that the Democrats can try to stop Alito.

Even if the Democrats loose, it is very important that history records them as doing "all they could" to prevent the inevitable train/democracy wreck that Alito will facilitate on the court.

53. Another good point:
He said that nobody is saying that Judge Alito isn't a nice man, or that he is accomplished, etc. He is all of those things. But those aren't reasons to confirm him...then went on to all the reasons he is wrong for the country.

The RWers act as if the fact that he appears to be a "nice guy" and is highly intelligent and accomplished are in themselves the reasons to confirm him!

55. TV here...
And as Kerry was wrapping up just out of curiosity (unlike The Chimp, I actually have curiosity) I flipped over to MSNRC and CNN.

CNN had the Chimps visit to the Memorex building (NSA) where they listen to all of our phone calls and read all of our feeble postings.

MSNRC had Richard Hatch of "Survivor" fame going to jail for tax evasion.

Not that I expected anything different, I just found it unusual that they wouldn't go "LIVE" when the President was speaking on CSPAN2 at the Alito hearings.

Oh, that's right.

Diebold.

Damn, I always forget that part.

The Big Guy or the Little Guy is not always right, he says. But, one would think, that the "little guy" would be right every once in a blue moon, would you not? Judge Alito's record does not show that he has stood up for the little guy? So where is the logic in his argument for Alito??

I have c-span open all day at work but headphones for sound. Not even looking at the face I recognized the voice and took off headphones immediately. He turns my stomach. He is a resident of Mordor.

Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 04:38 PM by Wordie
with cases of presidential power or abortion (saying those are the liberal concerns). What an absolutely absurd point to make. It only takes one or two such cases to change our country dramatically. It's totally irrelevant that there would only be a few of them. The point is that if confirmed, it would be Alito deciding those few.

75. Why is it that the RW is only concerned about LIBERAL activist judges.
Every indication is that Alito is a CONSERVATIVE activist judge, yet you don't hear these windbags, like Hatch, speaking now, ever complain about that!

110. Probably CNN's; one said majority would oppose if he would overturn Roe
Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 05:06 PM by Wordie
Here:
Poll: Majority would oppose Alito if he would overturn Roe
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/01/09/alito.poll/

A later poll said Alito's numbers had gone up, but still a majority would not approve if he would overturn Roe.

The problem, of course, is whether that poll was accurate, and how much influence all the rosy msm stuff has had on the public.

97. Nelson
Nelson of Nebraska votes yes...wtf. The DNC ought to cut his funding, and any other dems that vote yes. I'm sick of this non-unified demcrat front. Dean needs to get them all to toe the fucking line or boot them out and replace them with someone who will. How the hell are we suppose to put up an opposition to the rethugs when we're not unified under one banner?

rant off :-)

If we don't like it when Delay strongarms the Repugs into voting party line, why is it ok when we do?
