Fundie central: Teacher accusing First Baptist of bias
I have mixed feelings on this. In Texas, employers can fire you at will. For no reason. If they fired her for this, I could better understand it. She didn't live up to what they expected. A church is a private company.
However, the fact that they allowed her to keep her job IF she conformed to their set of standards is what incenses me. Signing statements for no sex??Oh my.

When the church found out in May 2005, staff members invited her to a meeting and told her that premarital sex was wrong, she said in the lawsuit. She alleged that she was asked several questions about her sex life that were "personal, inappropriate and unrelated to her job performance."

According to court documents, the questions included, "Were you a virgin when you had sex with the child's father?" and "Why can't you just get married to the child's father?"

In June 2005, First Baptist told her that she would be "let go" with pay until she had her baby, Ms. Brown said.

1. Oh, you could have SO MUCH fun with this!

Step 1- Rent a "business suite" with a hidden video camera.
Step 2- Place a Help Wanted ad in the newspaper.
Step 3- Interview young women for the job you advertised, secretly videotaping it.
Step 4- Ask the pretty ones personal questions about their sex lives.
Step 5- Take videotapes home and masturbate happily for weeks on end.

I'm not suggesting someone actually SHOULD do this.

I'm just illustrating just one way this could be abused.

2. So, if a woman is a teacher at a
religious school and gets raped and becomes pregnant she could lose her job also? Maybe she could just marry the rapist and everything would be okay?

3. I think she should win her lawsuit.
It's a clear case of discrimination, if I'm understanding it correctly.

Job shortages acknowleged, I'm also wondering why she took a job somewhere she would come under severe peer pressure, if not actual directives, knowing that her lifestyle directly conflicted with that of the organization employing her.

I understand it if she couldn't find employment elsewhere, but it seems like, if she were qualified to teach in a private school, she might have skills that could be employed outside a church setting.
