1. I don't really see my answer |
|
I think outing someone that does not want to be out is an outrage no matter what.

As I've stated repeatedly, I think ALL gay politicians should be open about being gay; otherwise they are far too vulnerable to blackmail and subversion. My response would be a statisfied, "It's about time."

6. I see your point but most of us are vulnerable to blackmail |
|
in some form, i.e.,there are things we've done that we don't want made public. And hell, the alleged behavior doesn't even need to be true in the current political climate, does it?
So, I have to agree with joe. I don't think outing people is an ethical thing to do, and there are always unintended consequences, including karma.

9. In theory, there is no reason for gay Democrats to be in the closet anyway |
|
So why should it be a big deal for them to be out? Why not eliminate the threat of having it used against them?

4. I'm so tired of closeted pols. It's one thing for celebs and bizfolk |
|
to remain closeted, but pols shouldn't hide stuff like that. I'd like to see the atheists come out of the closet, too. That, of course, would be ALL politicians.

5. I voted no strong feelings |
|
I don't think it is right to "out" closeted private individuals.
But when someone chooses to enter public life as a politician I don't think that they can reasonably expect to keep their being gay a secret. Sure, they will lose the votes of some bigoted homophobes, but in general I think it's good to have public figures out of the closet.

10. Yes, because it will hurt your opponent. |
|
I've got to tell you, after 6 years of rule by the "majority of the majority", meaning purely Republican rule with no room for anyone else... I haven't got an ounce of interest in fair play or sportsmanship. If it hurts the Republicans, it's fine by me.

14. I realize that everyone comes out differently, |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 09:10 AM by Strathos
But I do feel it's best that everyone comes out if for nothing else to lessen the shame and to show the world that our numbers are way stronger than the 2% some rethugs claim.
