My daughter and I will be at their Nov. concert in Portland and we will support this movie as well!

4. I learned things just watching the trailer |
|
Radio stations had garbage cans for Dixie Chicks cds? My God. We heard "I'm not ready to make nice" over the PA system in a WalMart store, *everyone* was mouthing the words or singing along. :-)
It could be a theme song for the '08 Dem Convention, I'll be VERY disappointed if they aren't invited to perform.
Thanks for the link.

I love the end of the trailer when you hear the idiot in the White House (in that ridiculous voice of his) say, "They shouldn't have their feelings hurt just because some people don't want to buy their records."
And then you hear (I think it's Natalie) say, "What a dumb fuc...." as the audio it trails off!! :spray:
PRICELESS!!
(And did I hear someone during the clip say the Red Cross refused to accept a $1million donation from the Dixie Chicks?) :wtf:
Well, there's absolutely nothing the freeptards can do to stop us from giving our money to the Dixie Chicks, now is there??!!
Can't wait to go!

The Red Cross wouldn't accept it. Unbelievable. The trailer almost brought me to tears. http://www.pe.com/sharedcontent/features/country2/052806ccdrMUSICnatalie.3a3fb996.htmlEdited to correct info.

10. What is wrong with charity groups? The Salvation Army hates gays, the |
|
Red Cross hates the Dixie Chicks......IMO, it's a humanitarian crime to refuse one million dollars....a huge sum of money that could have been used to help desperate citizens.
But I guess you have to be a christian conservative, anti-gay Bush supporter to be "allowed" to help man/womenkind. :puke:

I can't wait until it comes out on DVD. I won't expect it to be available in southern Mississippi before then--and even then, I'll probably only be able to get it through amazon.com.

18. Watched a pre-Iraqi biography on the Chicks. |
|
This bio was made before the "12 words" were ever spoken. And one constant theme was hatred of the Chicks by a large element in the Country Music industry. It was written off on as a misogynist thing; female singers (e.g. Dolly Parton), woo-woo; female song-writers (e.g. Dolly Parton), okay since few people know who write the songs anyway; but female band members, NO!
I am of another opinion. I look at the Dixie Chick formula compared to the industry strategy at that time.
Industry: country style with rock & roll music. Dixie Chicks: city style with country music.
Sort of made all those country clothes on the other singers look like the emperor's new clothes.
In fact, they had a huge fight over mixing their first album. I think it was the banjo -- though it might have been the fiddle or a steel guitar. The same idiots who signed them because they liked their sound refused to let them record with that instrument. The Chicks refused to record without it and ultimately got their way.
Then went on to be the second most successful act in Nashville history. Only Elvis Presley has sold more albums.
But like Elvis, they kept running into problems with Conservatives. Their 2nd or 3rd album was pulled off the air and off shelves because it contained the song, Goodbye Earl. The people pulling it off the air said the song violated "country values".
What was the song about? A woman using poisoned black-eyed peas to kill the ex-boyfriend who kept coming around to beat her up. I don't know about you, but that sounds like a stereotype country song to me! To make it the perfect country song all it needed was a line about a dog getting run over by a train while she was driving to pick her momma up from jail.
So I think a lot of the "12 words" controversy were their enemies jumping on an opportunity.

I was at the Storytellers taping last month, and Emily McGuire (the banjo/mandolin/guitar player) recounted the story. It wasn't just the banjo--it was a knock-down, drag-out fight over whether their song "Wide Open Spaces" would make it onto that album. The producer refused repeatedly to include it, until the Chicks presented a united front and insisted. His response was "okay, but we have to take the banjo track off the song, because you can't have a banjo in country music." Emily McGuire said she just looked at him like he was crazy (and for good reason). They all take great satisfaction at how well that song did, after they fought so hard to get it on the album.
