tolerate this way of life much longer.

4. I'm afraid if we lose this year, I'll have to move
because there probably WON'T be an election in '08. As long as Shrubya and his tinkle-on economics prevail, the American dream is dead for me (working stiff that I am) so it may be time for me to seek hope elsewhere.

3. We lose 2006 only through GOP election fraud--take it to the streets.
Ukraine and Mexico style streets protests and strikes are in order. Boycott red states. The works. I think this time the press will be covering the election fraud that the GOP perpetrates, because their bosses got screwed by Rove who did not make good on his six year old promise to give them media mergers ( Michael Powelll rubbed their face in it by revealing the day AFTER Congress signed W. up for a second term in 2005 that the administration never intended to keep its promise).

If W. and Cheney do something really bad, like try to declare martial law, the US military will step in to stop them. Right now the administration is suffering a severe lack of power.

17. Not just the military
The People are armed. I never thought I'd be talking this way, but with the rise of Fascism in this country, I've actually considered gun ownership myself.

I find it ironic to see so many people who were around to see America save Europe from Fascism now defending the same (or are in denial of ) in our country today.

10. Posted This Several Times Before.....
Selling my house, my acreage and when my mother-in-law passes will be looking to Costa Rica!!

Have already made contacts with people who know realtors there but won't be able to run away until I divest! Mother-in-law has lived with us for over 7 years now and is 94 with Alzheimer's. We have given her the nick-name "Ever-Ready Battery" and before she went to La La Land she ALWAYS said she was going to live to be 100! Her place can't be sold until she passes either!!

We do have one other possibility if we can't sell our acreage very soon, use our IRA and buy land in Costa Rica and wait for the rest to sell. That could be risky though! But I don't think I can stand anymore of this INSANITY that America has turned into!!!! I want to ENJOY some life before I reach retirement age and am still able to walk and talk!

but I am sure more than a few Jews/intellectuals/tradesmen felt the same way in Germany about 70 years ago. "It may be bad, but it'll never get *that* bad." Those brave souls wound up in ovens.

14. Wait for the GOP to implode even more and start working on '08
Remember if we lose this November, they still control the entire government. That means they have all of the responsibility and everything is on them. Sure, they can blame it on Clinton but that only works up to a point after 8 years. Even if they remain in power I can't imagine how they will make a recovery between now and '08.

Also, even if we don't get the majorities I think that our ability to fillibuster a lot of things in the senate will be restored because of new people like Bob Casey, Jon Tester, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Sherrod Brown (4 seats that Republicans are very much on track to lose right now).

15. Help the press! Video camera phones can record fraud! Go out on
election day and film GOP workers intimidation Democratic voters, giving bogus advice, film police roadblocks, film the E-voting machine when you vote in case it switches the Dem vote to a GOP vote.

If you capture anything, send it to the press, the Democrats and put it on YouTube immediately for the whole world to see. Be sure to get the faces of the GOPers who are engaged in the illegal voter intimidation.

Also long lines at Dem polling places, delayed openings, lack of ballots, machines that wont work---record all that and put it on YouTube as well.

45. Good idea!
As it is, as citizen journalists, we've had to take a lot of matters into our own hands since our media are a bunch of corporate lapdogs. Already, thanks to the Net, a lot of things that would otherwise get buried on page A-18 in the papers get splashed around all over cyberspace, thanks to us. WE need to make them accountable. WE need to take our country back!

As for me, I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying on to fight the good fight.

46. Meanwhile, USE YOUR STATE FORUM to think and talk
to your neighbors about the coming election. Find out who is in place to cover which district -- in case you need to send someone in to document voter suppression or their other dirty tricks.

I'm going to do that in the CA forum.

You guys in the NM, CO, PA,TN, GA, AZ, OH, NC, FL forums -- please think about doing this.

18. No matter what happens, there won't necessarily be a huge change.
There may be a change-- don't get me wrong. Somehow I doubt it, though. 33% of America is staunchly conservative, jingoistic, and pro-corporation at any expense. 20% of America would willing choose theocracy over democracy. We will not be in the clear until there is a major shift in consciousness-- and it hasn't happened.

But our problems are bigger than one midterm. If we win the midterms it could mean a few things:

(1) there was never any real voter fraud and the pendulum is really swinging. When it is safe, our elected Dems will fight to end the war, protect us from pernicious corporations, and safeguard gay rights and abortion.
(2) there was real voter fraud and the neocons-- who view Bush as expendible and/or know he will never really be indicted by the Conyers led justice committee-- are going to sit this one out in order to work behind the scenes to establish a longer rule come 2008.
(3) the PNAC is/has infiltrated the Democratic party. They will pull the strings to make sure the Democrats support war and expansion in the middle east and neoliberal economics abroad, while throwing a carrot to those who are moderate on social issues.

If we don't win, it could mean a few things:

1) there was never any real voter fraud and the pendulum is not swinging. The country really favors conservatives.
2) there was real voter fraud and the PNAC are still working to infiltrate the Democratic party for a 2008 changover.
3) there was real voter fraud and they are setting up a dictatorship, no need for a phoney "changeover."

If there is election fraud, they need to throw one to the dems so then they can tell all of us to shut the fuck up about it.

Having lived through LBJ, Nixon, Drooling Reagan, BushI, and 6 years of El Boob-yo Supremo, I've developed a pretty tough skin and an irreparably cynical attitude about the antics of the bosses and their never ending quest for power.

Not that I wouldn't move to a civilized country if I could afford it.

cycle. I will cast my vote for the Dem in 2008 after that, I think the democratic wing of the democratic party needs to be under Green leadership.

As I've blogged before, if the Dems cannot win under these circumstances, then it it DEAD already. It's not our base or our working class values. It is our leaders.

All that remains to be determined is whether I'll have to move all the way to what is currently knows as Canada, or just as far as a blue-state that has newly become one of Canada's newest southern provinces.

44. Work the plan I am on
Edited on Fri Oct-13-06 08:44 PM by Solo_in_MD
Which started in the Clinton Administration (in no particular order)
- Make as much money as I an in a low job security/high paying job while my wife has a secure job with great benefits to fund education of my children and put away for retirement
- Keep healthy through smart eating and exercise
- Get my children ready for the real world
- Fund their college, at least through a BS degree
- Learn and practice smart investing. No crap shoots, just slow steady growth
- Plan for and adopt a low footprint/low cost lifestyle in the future
- Return to teaching to finish out my work career.
- Make positive contributions to my local area and throught that the world
- Run for local municiple office as a way of giving back

Everyday I try to do something towards one or all of those goals. Some days are better than others in that regards. Sometimes there is lots of progress in a short time, other times, it seems stagnant. I won't go to Canada or Europe. Been there, and its not really any better, and in some ways worse (at least for me). Besides I am allergic to snow. I want to stay on the west coast with the newer infrastructure and better overall quality of life.
