If I were a Fox News-type media scumbag, I'd be rooting hard for the Dems.

Think about it.

What was the best thing, the single best thing, ever to happen to the GOP? To the evangelical types? To the moneymen behind them?

William Jefferson Clinton.

It was during the 1990s, during the Clinton administration, that these guys really made their mark. They had stuff to yell about every day, and more importantly, stuff to drive the GOP base into a frenzy about every day. That translated into fat cash by way of direct-mail donation requests. They had the base so fired up that people were vaccuming up change between the couch cushions so they could send it to Al D'Amato and Dan Burton.

NewsMax, for one example, was made by the Clinton years, because Scaife was throwing money around like a drunken sailor on shore leave. Ted Olson took Scaife's Arkansas Project money and parlayed it into a position as Solicitor General to the Supreme Court. The list goes on.

Yeah, if I were a Fox News dirtbag or a right-wing operative, I'd try to steal the election *for* the Democrats. The gravy train will be open for business again if that happens.

2. very very true
but I must say.. the greatest joy of my life was attained the morning after the 1996 election when Bill Clinton handed Bob Dole a sound defeat. I turned on Rush Limbaugh and listened to him breathing heavily.. practically sobbing. He tapped his papers on the desk more than he spoke. I thought he was going to lose it. It was great theatre. Of course I was overjoyed at his misery. Looking back, maybe he was really happy... We had no idea that in a few short years the rethugs would catch Clinton in a stupid, unimportant lie and make a circus of impeachment.

6. As a former drunken Sailor who took shore leave I take acception
to the comparison. The money me and my shipmates spent was never used to harm anyone (but ourselves.)
