Head of British army calls for withdrawal from Iraq
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=08a0efc00dad98f8

The head of the British Army has called for a withdrawal of British troops from Iraq.

He says the pullout should take place, "sometime soon." He also said post-invasion planning for the war, was "poor, and probably based more on optimism than sound planning."

Gen. Richard Dannatt said that Britain's continued presence in Iraq had made the country less secure.

Britain should, "get ourselves out sometime soon because our presence exacerbates security problems," he told London's Daily Mail newspaper in an interview published Thursday.

1. he's since withdrawn his comments
...saying he was speaking of specific places in iraq and that the withdrawal should happen when the mission is complete in 5 or 6 years.

4. Sorry to nitpick but he is NOT head of the British Army
That job belongs to Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, Sovereign of United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, and Saint Kitts and Nevis; Head of the Commonwealth, Supreme Governor of the Church of England (styled Defender of the faith), Princess Elizabeth of York, Lord of Mann, Duke of Lancaster, Duke of Normandy, Duchess of Edinburgh, Lord High Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces.

General Dannatt is Chief of the General Staff.
