DURHAM, N.H. - John McCain and Hillary Clinton are the most popular potential candidates in New Hampshire for their parties' nomination for president in 2008, a poll released Thursday found.

A total of 515 likely voters were asked about 20 potential presidential candidates in the latest Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center for WMUR-TV.

McCain drew the most support among state Republicans, with 32 percent backing him. He was followed by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, with 19 percent; Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, with 15 percent; and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, with 10 percent. Two percent favor some other candidate, and 14 percent are undecided.

Clinton was the favorite among Democrats polled, with 30 percent supporting her. John Edwards drew 16 percent, Al Gore drew 10 percent and Sen. John Kerry had the support of 9 percent of Democrats. Four percent prefer some other candidate and 17 percent are undecided.

3. well
he and kerry and gore all have a big problem. They lost the election. Lots of people don't believe in giving people a second chance. They had the chance of a lifetime and for whatever reason didn't close the deal with the american public and WIN BEYOND THE MARGIN OF LITIGATION.

2. where are the DU'ers trashing Hillary that she has no support?
She's kicking Al Gore, John Edwards, and John Kerry's ass and they all have equal name recognition to her so you can't use that argument.

And a large chunk of New Hampshire is also in the Boston media market which is John Kerry's home market. They know everything and anything about him and are soundly rejecting him for 2008.

As usual, there is a huge disconnect here in DU and in the real world democrats outside DU.

4. What about Clark?
He would be my choice, and I believe he would stand a good chance in the general election against McCain. Hilary, on the the other hand, would be lucky to carry a single red state. IMO

6. I'd never support Hillary.
I don't think she is that popular at all. The only redeeming thing about her winning the presidency would be to see Bill back in the White House as "First Gentleman". That would be enormously entertaining....

8. You don't think she's that popular? Dream on.
Only on this forum is she not very popular. Anywhere else she smokes everyone.
