Report: Mark Warner dropped out cause of sex scandal with interns
http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2006/10/mark-warners-clinto-problem.php

D.C. insiders are speculating that his surprise pull-out may have been sparked by concerns that alleged past sexual indiscretions could derail his campaign—especially in the midst of the Mark Foley feeding frenzy.

"I can't believe no one has mentioned his philandering," a former political aide tells Radar, adding that she herself was subjected to Warner's advances in the late '90s and had heard "stories about Mark and many interns."

"This can't be isolated. I have to believe this stuff is all over," a former D.C. consultant tells Radar.

"It would be ironic if the anti-Hillary faction's best hope turned out to have the same problem as Bill," the consultant said.

4. Gotta love those unnamed Dems
Eat Democrats First. That should be our parties motto. I'm not spreading this shit, I'll tell you that. We don't need it when everything is going so well.

Or maybe that's why these people are former aides and consultants in the first place.

Hell, I say he should run anyway, I'd love to be able to make Monica like jokes. GOD I WANT BILL BACK! He was so funny and you could joke about him and it didn't seem to piss him off, a real sport.

23. My Mom Has A Theory

the drive that makes a man successful - and it does take a lot of determination and drive - spills over into other areas as well.

We wonder if the problem with Dubya is he's not getting ENOUGH and has to take it out elsewhere - you know like starting a war.

I think they feed on each other - the sexual drive and political drive.

Case in point, Bruce Babbitt's little gaffe during his 1988 Presidential campaign. He was at some event and after the big speech or whatever, he turned to his wife and announced he was horny! Only thing is, the mike was still on! Still, we should have cut him some slack, at least it was his wife.

I am not excusing or condoning sexual promiscuity in politicians (although it beats invading a country), but lazy men do not become leaders. I don't know if the theory holds for women. Women are still relatively new to the political arena, and women being able to express their sexuality is also a relatively modern trend.

I don't blame him (Warner) for not wanting his family subject to this scrutiny. It is a shame we reject good leaders, or good men feel they cannot run because of something that should be a private matter.

11. When is everyone going to accept that every successful guy
who makes a lot of money has had extramarital affairs?

I workeda lot of years in the corporate slime tank, and Ican tell you, I have NEVER known any executive who hasn't hadan extramarital affair or more, or they are involved in a gay relationship. Rove is very good at hiding things, or I'm positive there would be a lot of stuff out there about Shrub!

22. I'm not sure what you mean. If you think I'm dancing, you/re wrong.
Almost all of the execs I worked for were womanizers, and most if not all were Pubs! during the 70's and 80's, thePresident of our Companysaid a woman has only one great position...flat on her back in bed!

Everyone of them had quite a few broads on the side. When they tired of one, they got a new one! The wives ignored it because the lifestyle they had was GREAT!

How long is it going to take for the American people to realize that?

I ignore all the peersona l indisgression crap, and listen to what the guy's going to do, how he thinks, and how he reacts to circumstances. So far, no Pub has met my requirements!!!!

21. True dat. The personality trait that drives for success, drives for sex
IMHO.

The conquest, the control, the power play - it's a psychological trait that accompanies power freaks. They have a certain degree of megalomania that requires such utter confidence in themselves, it translates badly to other areas of their lives (like personal relationships).

I actually vividly remember a psych class back in the dark ages where the professor wanted us to debate whether world leaders were actually psychopaths because of the level of pathology required to believe that they, the LEADER, was so important as to be able to affect the course of history. It was a compelling arguement.

24. Not *every* successful guy (or gal). But I would wager 90%.
Power and self-confidence are aphrodisiacs. Exhibit A: the marriage of Henry Kissinger and Jill St. John.

My problem with Clinton, other than the dalliance per se, was his choice. Monica Lewinsky. What a dud. Kennedy had Marilyn Monroe. I think if Clinton had been with someone like Marilyn, people would have probably said, "Well, who can blame him."

It isn't good to cheat, but don't insult your spouse by picking someone below their level, and Monica was way below Hillary's level.

15. there is always a "reason"
No politican devotes a year travelling the country, networking with donors, staff, building up an operation and then pulls the plug to "spend more time with the family."

20. The fact is that he would have to redouble his efforts for the next two
full years for the possibility that he might not win. Have you ever considered that he realized he wasn't cut out for a national campaign? Many politicians make that judgement. Why assume sex scandals? This is what's wrong with politics today.

28. Hi, Dinger. I'm a bit sensitive to slams on Democrats. I've worked many
elections as an anonymous volunteer because I think our people beat the hell out of their people, and the bluer that map gets on Nov. 7th around 10:30 or 11:00 p.m., the better.

I'm not a Warner sycophant, but I respect the man for his rare and principled stand on the death penalty.

I don't think we're done with him in public life and I don't think he has many limits on his own notions of higher office. Maybe the Senate next time -- for John Warner's seat? Maybe the presidency in 2012 or later? He's a young guy -- there are plenty of options.

This close to an election, our spidey sense needs to be in tune for any denigration of our candidates, even candidates of the future. Dean is trying to build a 50-state party, and we need to back our people.
