Why Hillary Clinton Can Not Win
Edited on Fri Oct-13-06 09:45 PM by demwing
There's only one reason, in my book, but it's a deal breaker, and it is this:

There has been a Clinton or a Bush in the Whitehouse since 1988. Thats 20 years, by the time the next pres is elected. 28 if you count Bush-41's time as VP.

With all the corruption and poor decision making of the current administration, it's hoped that voters will be turning out in large quantities, all loking for one thing - change.

Turning the country back over to a Clinton in 2008 will not be considered progressive change (ok, compared to Bush 43 it is--but you understand my meaning), and if the Republicans run anyone other than Jeb against Hillary, they'll reap all the benefit of the anti-incumbent mood.

Yeah, I know Hillary isn't the incumbent, so don't bother saying so. But in an election year where there IS no incumbent, she'll be the closest thing.

That's it - to win we need to foster a mood favoring progress and change, not a return to the 1990s. The Democratic party must move forward, not back.

1. Hill should stay where she is and do the
real hard work, not just look to be the first female unitary exec. (and listening to the sound of freeps heads explode from the next county would be about my only reason to wish for it)

2. Exactly why I don't
want her to run either. We are not a a hierarchical society. We need new blood, new ideas to grow. She would be good as Senate leader though.

Though I think Reid deserves the position when the time comes.

3. For the life of me I still don't get the brouhaha about Sen Clinton.

Just a comment, and to be honest, this is the first "Hillary" post I came across, but it seems to be a theme of sorts recently. Appreciate your "incumbent" take. I just hope, come *national election* time, in 2008, we take a good look at all the candidates - you know, the ones that actually are running.

Let's focus on overturning the failed, and dishonest, Gingrich Revolution this November. That, imo, will pay dividends for our party and our country long after the 2008 elections.

Just my two cents. Thanks.

It seems like EVERY republican in American HATES--I mean HATES--Hillary Clinton. And not every Democrat even likes her. There is no one we could nominate who would bring the republicans together more strongly than would Hillary.

I think she's been an adequate senator, though I'll never get past her support of *'s Iraq adventure. Of all people, she should have known better.

Hillary could win the Democratic nomination, but it would be disastrous for the party. She might make a good president--who knows?--but she couldn't win in a million years.

All that said, if she does become the nominee, she'll have my support.

7. My thoughts exactly!
I don't hate Hillary. There's alot about her that I really admire...and I really want a woman to be president one day. But it won't be Hillary. Nothing will bring out the repuke voters like Hillary on the ballot.

10. And I agree
I think Hillary would make a fine Prez, IF she could get elected.

I have nothing against her personally, its high time we had a prez that wasn't a white male, and she's obviously qualified in many ways. I just don't think she can win in this environment, and we MUST win.

We absolutely MUST win.

6. I agree
But I wish she would win just to fry the Freepers nads. She is not Liberal as they call her and has done nothing to command such hatred. Her image is the product of Right wing Hate mill.

12. Well, we could run a dead dog against any Repuke
and DUers would give it their support.

Our votes are a lock, I'm pretty sure of that.

13. There IS A Dem Who Offers A "Return To The Golden Years"
and a likely landslide victory, acccording to Dr. James N. Herndon, a media psychologist with Media Psychology Affiliates.

Using a new research tool called Affective Encryption Analysis, Dr. Herndon led an investigation into the likely outcome of the 2008 Presidential election.

"Despite the widespread public dissatisfaction with the George W. Bush administration, our results showed even greater ill-feelings toward potential Democratic challengers,” says Dr. Herndon. “But there was one exception: Al Gore.”

Read it all right here:

14. I would never presume to declare whether or not she can win, but
I hope she doesn't run in 2008. My ears will not be able to tolerate the noise from both sides of the aisle.

21. I understand your point, but
I really do believe she can NOT win under the current set of circumstances (for the reasons given), and to title the thread "The Reason Why I Believe Hillary Clinton Might Possibley Not Be Electable (...Or Not)" is just not as compelling. ;)

16. Hillary Clinton will never be President
first of all I'm not totally convinced this country is ready for a female President which obviously will hurt her - second the rabid right wingers HATE HER with a PASSION which will make them work and vote to defeat her - third some not so politically minded women don't like her because she didn't kick Bill to the curb - and fourth a lot of liberal Dems are disgusted by her lack of leadership and her which way is the wind blowing I stand for next to nothing unless the polls say so attitude - I'm in this group - but obviously if push came to shove I would vote for her - but there are not enough of us - the final reason I know she can't win is the repunks and the MSM are touting her as the front runner - and I believe they are doing this so she gets the nomination because they know she can't win.

20. I hear your point, but refuse to be cowed
And if the only choices we have are Hillary Clinton or a boogey man candidate, then maybe we need to ask ourselves what the hell happened to the Democratic party.
