Is there a total news blackout on the munitions attack and explosions
from the other day? It is really worrisome that there seems to be no reports in the aftermath. It would be virtually impossible for there to have been no deaths from those explosions.

16. Thanks, read all three postings
This is devastating, that we are not getting any news.
The unspun article was detailed, but the Turkish had
to much American speak in it.

8. Don't know if all the claims from the insurgents are true
but what little came out before the blackout said it took 13 hours to put out the fires. Obviously there was some serious damage and casualties and they certainly don't want any real bad news coming out less than a month before the elections. Personally, knowing how a forward base camp with major amounts of ammo for large operations is laid out, I'd say it was a disaster.

12. How about the fact this isn't the first munitions depot hit.
A while back there was another one that got hit and was going off for a number of hours, there was almost no reporting on it either.

3. What is it about that attack that's so weird. It happened. I saw a picture
here of the ammo dump burning. But the first thread I saw on it disappeared in a heartbeat, like it was never posted.

And I have only seen the article with the picture since.

Why is this so hush-hush? Why did it even disappear from here?

All that is left is my post....And I was calling it an "Ammo storage" not an "Ammo Dump" as they were calling it on CNN.

Was it your thead, or did you just post on it?

By the way, "Ammo dump" is I believe military venacular for ammo storage facility.

There is another thread, link above in response #28.

14. The taxpayer will replace the ammo. If no one died, that's great.
But since if it bleeds, it leads, if no one died, a few spectacular ammo cookoff explosions aren't going to impress editors in the US. There's a LOT competing for attention in the news after all.

Of course, I personally, would much rather they did report extensively on such things but, the US Army can make a legitimate claim (for once) that too much reporting on this would give too much information to the insurgents.

the sentries at the ammo dump were doing fine until one of their Canadian buddies sent them one of those 10-foot pot plants from Afghanistan.

26. There must be some kind of "blackout" going on-check out my post re. this
and see how all that shows in my "bookmarks" is my post, but not the original thread. What's interesting is that when I read the initial news reports and watched on CNN, they were calling it an Ammo dump. That's when I posted this comment saying I thought what it really was, was an "Ammo Storage" and that this was a major defeat for our military.

Meanwhile, nothing is being said about it.... Strange indeed.... :eyes:

35. IMO - Please calm down on this subject - here's why
Edited on Sun Oct-15-06 07:37 AM by better2know
1. This was an ammo dump- designed for storing ammo. Therefore designed for the danger of an accidental explosion with deflection walls, and proper zoning.

2. Most major accidental ammo explosions have been while loading or in transport, two occasions when these safety precautions are often necessarily violated.

3. This took place at 11pm there would hardly likely be many people in the immediate area.

4. IIRC- most of the DU (Depleted Uranium) is fired by flying gunships and is probably stored at the airfields. This might still be the biggest problem.

5. The sounds of the explosion would make a large impact, making false propaganda about massive deaths more plausible.

-Though I could be wrong.
