11. I wrote MSNBC, CNN and my local stations.
also dropped a line to Juan Cole. He tends to ferret out things others miss.

3. I saw at least one report it was enemy mortar fire that set it off
Insensitive Munitions issues are a real problem, esp with the older and simpler stuff that is the backbone of Army munitions (shells and bullets). Navy has taken a very hard line on it ever since the fire aboard the Forestal. Ordinance needs to be treated with care.

Some horror stories here:

8. I want to know how many innocent
young American and Iraqis were killed. The longer the silence, the more suspicious I become about casualties. I also want to know if depleted uranium was kept at the depot.

13. There had to have been some horrific results to that incident.
Ammo dumps in populated areas are just invitations to carnage.

Shit flying everywhere.

14. Here's one from 11th October
http://news.softpedia.com/news/American-Ammunition-Depot-in-Iraq-Catches-Fire-37626.shtml
<snip>
The official statement mentioned the fact that the military possessed no information with regard to any casualties’ toll.

In addition to this, the report did not provide additional details with regard to whether or not the military base had been the object of a militant terrorist attack or not. According to Lt. Col. Cristopher C. Garver, an investigation into the matter is pending, in order to shed more light on the exact causes of the fire.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Withington, one of the spokesmen of the operating base, located the initial explosion to have occurred in an area where the ammunition was stored temporarily, before being transported to other units. “There is a lot of ammunition there, but it's not a full storage depot. This does not degrade our operational ability at all”, he declared. At the time of the explosion, there were three battalions in the area but their actual number is not yet known.
