Despite the predictions of a Democratic "tsunami" on Election Day, I can't let myself get more than cautiously optimistic. But even before the Foley scandal, our candidates were doing well, and, since the perfect storm finally hit, they've apparently been able to move onward and upward.

Win or lose, I think we owe some appreciation to Congressman Rahm Emanuel and Senator Charles Schumer for their role in selecting candidates -- and to Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean for his "Fifty-State Strategy" that enables us to take advantage of national voter discontent by competing across the country from small towns to Capitol Hill.
