still no mention of that in the radical right wing media, or any media for that matter. it must have been real big and real bad ???

guess our troops can always throw rocks back if anybody ever decides to stand and fight us like a real enemy.

then again you do not need much ammo to fight back against ied's do you?

lets really support our troops and get them out of that country of death that the neocons have them in.

peace.

now there is a word you don't hear much lately.

1. By nature of the word "dump".....
That was ordinance that would not have been used any way.

The stuff our troops use is kept in an armory, not an ammo dump.

4. Are you kidding?
Even if it was ordinance that was not going to be used, which it was not, why in the world would they keep it around, so close to the troops, for any stray mortar round to hit?

5. rules for an "ammo dump"
_A buffer zone or cleared area of at least several hundred feet (sometimes as much as 1-2 km or 1 mile) surrounding the facility, in the event of an explosion
_Perimeter security, such as a fence, to avoid casual access by unauthorized persons
_Guards equipped and in numbers relative to the potential threat from enemy forces
_Bunkers where ammunition is stored under lock and key
_Blast barriers, such as an earth berm or buried pit, to divert the force of the blast (typically upward, but sometimes to the side) in case the ammunition detonates
_A loading area for transferring stored ammunition to and from trucks, ships, etc.
_A flooding system in large facilities to put out a fire or prevent an explosion

16. An armory is where weapons are stored; an ammo dump is
where explosives, including ammunition, are kept and maintained. Ammo dump is slang; correct title: Munitions Maintenance and Storage Facility.

Unusable or defective munitions are not stored. They are destroyed as quickly and efficiently as circumstances allow.

6. I believe it was yesterday morning that I heard two groups
claimed responsibility for the attack. Also, CNN showed footage that one of the groups supposedly shot of the explosions.

I think they are trying to downplay the whole thing. Kaching...kaching...kaching for the taxpayers.

8. Several reports confirmed that
it was hit but there has been no confirmation by the US officials.
<snip>
In addition to this, the report did not provide additional details with regard to whether or not the military base had been the object of a militant terrorist attack or not.
--------
the silence is deafening.

"Insurgent mortar fire hit an American military ammunition dump late Tuesday night, setting off huge explosions and rattling windows and nerves throughout the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, military and civilian officials said Wednesday."

12. How do you know that no one died?
<snip>
US military officials in Iraq reported on Wednesday morning that a great blaze occurred in one of the US-owned ammunition dumps in the southern part of the country, the Forward Operating Base Falcon, on Tuesday night, which in turn caused a series of tank and artillery shells’ explosions that went for hours and consequently created a shock wave towards all the nearby buildings. The official statement mentioned the fact that the military possessed no information with regard to any casualties’ toll.
Strange wording indeed.

15. 82 mm mortar round ingnited it
admits the US military. Nothing after that Oct 11 ....

A massive fire at an ammunition dump at a U.S. base in southern Baghdad was sparked by a mortar round fired by insurgents, which set off a series of explosions from detonating tank and artillery shells that shook buildings miles away, the U.S. military said today.

The 82mm round was fired from a nearby residential area and hit Forward Operating Base Falcon around 10:40 last night, spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Withington said. No injuries were reported.

The Islamic Army in Iraq, a nationalist anti-occupation insurgent group, claimed responsibility yesterday in a statement posted on the Internet.

The U.S. military statement did not mention the claim or name any particular group as a suspect in the fire.
