WTF?#! GOP allows a CONVICTED felon to stay in Congress instead of jail!!
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 12:53 PM by BigBearJohn

The Democrats in Congress should be hammering the GOP
over the head with this headline on all the wire services:

"THE GOP ALLOWS CONVICTED FELON
TO REMAIN IN CONGRESS INSTEAD OF JAIL!!
WHERE IS THE GOP'S MORAL OUTRAGE?
WHERE ARE THEIR VALUES NOW?"

They demanded the immediate ouster of Foley --
yet now allow a self-admitted CRIMINAL to remain in Congress!!!
America's dignity DEMANDS Ney's IMMEDIATE ouster!

THIS IS BEYOND OUTRAGEOUS -- FELONS CAN'T VOTE IN ELECTIONS
WHY SHOULD A CONVICTED CRIMINAL BE ALLOWED TO VOTE IN CONGRESS!!??#!#@$

2. A few details please
I like to think that I stay up to date on things but I have no idea what you are talking about.

Name the congress person and the felony and perhaps have a link to something telling the story. Nice use of colors though! :hi:

There are still laws on the book against consorting with known felons.

16. He resigned his leadership positions a while ago, but has

announced that he will not step down from Congress until early December. Astonishing that a convicted felon thinks he has any right to call the shots anymore.

Ney to Close St. C Office by December (then resign)

Sensenbrenner to Introduce Resolution Expelling Ney Immediately

Sensenbrenner: 'Bob Ney Should Resign Immediately and Not Remain in Congress a Moment Longer'

10/13/2006 3:58:00 PM

WASHINGTON, Oct. 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (R-Wis.) today announced that he will introduce a resolution expelling Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio) immediately from the House of Representatives. Rep. Ney today pled guilty in federal court to making false statements and conspiracy to commit fraud.

"Bob Ney has brought shame to himself and disgraced the Congress by betraying the bond entrusted to him as a public official. No one - Democrat or Republican - should remain a Member of the People's House after being convicted of criminal conduct while in office. Bob Ney should resign immediately and not remain in Congress a moment longer. Therefore, I intend to introduce a resolution expelling Mr. Ney immediately as soon as Congress returns to Washington and will work with my colleagues to achieve this result."

9. Protecting the Seat
The want to protect his seat. As they say republicans will do anything to stay in power. I am expecting a candidate to be assassinated before some of the voting is over.

10. for the sake of accuracy...
...not all states prohibit felons from voting. In some states, even people in prison under a felony sentence can vote. In some states, the right is restored upon completion of the sentence. In some states, the felon must petition for restoration of voting rights. And, yes, in some states the vote is completely denied, irrevocably.

14. A number of Republicans are calling for him to resign.
You would think that he wouldn't need to be asked. Common decency would dictate that he step down on his own. Some people just don't get it

15. I'm certainly NOT sticking up for the GOP, but..........
they've made a statement (can't remember who it was, heard it this AM on CNN) that Ney will be forced out when Lawmakers return to Washington after the mid-term elections. Of course we all know how much the GOP can be trusted, this could be a ruse to keep Ney on Capital Hill until January.
That being said, I think IT IS a good idea to make use of this travesty until then. We should force their hand now, not later. Make them get rid of Ney NOW, not wait until after mid-terms or whatever their time-table is for canning this huckster.

26. In the meantime he gets paid.
I heard that he will get $13K until he resigns. He could've recieved a 10 yr. Prison Sentence had he not plead guilty to two of the many charges. Now his sentence is 1 yr. 3 months. Why hasn't he been sent to prison?

34. Well, it is in Pennsylvania
Under Pennsylvania law, “a person is guilty of bribery, a felony of the third degree, if he offers, confers or agrees to confer upon another…any pecuniary benefit as consideration for the decision, opinion, recommendation, vote or other exercise of discretion as a public servant…by the recipient…” 18 Pa. C.S. § 4701(a)(1).
