Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) spokeperson "abruptly resigned"
From Talking Points:

October 14, 2006 -- 03:26 PM EDT)

The plot thicks yet again.

Korenna Kline, spokesperson for Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ), abruptly resigned yesterday.

This comes just a few days after Kolbe issued a written statement about the Foley matter that contradicted in key respects comments Kline had already made about Kolbe's knowledge of Foley's problem with pages.

A staffer for a retiring congressman finding new employment before the term ends is not terribly unusual, but there is more going on here than simply new employment opportunities.

The Russell Pearce Scandal Spills into CD-5

<snip>

For those that don't already know, State Representative Russell Pearce of District in Mesa recently sent out an e-mail to supporters citing an article from the racist group, the National Alliance. Plugged In covers the whole crazy thing here, along with Pearce's apology.

Pearce is in hot water. First, it was supporting a revival of "Operation Wetback," and now it is forwarding racist, Neo-Nazi trash to his supporters. From what others have told me his district has a sizable Latino population. Sure Mesa is conservative, but this isn't shaping up to be a good year for any conservative. I have met his opponent, Tammie Pursley, and I think it's a race she can win.

The scandal has spilled into CD-5. On Tuesday, J.D. Hayworth rescinded his endorsement of Russell Pearce.

"Given the regrettable and disturbing nature of the email Russell Pearce circulated earlier this week, I cannot in good conscience lend my endorsement to his candidacy for State Representative. While Russell has issued an apology for his emails, I nonetheless will not be associated with any communication that contains anti-Semetic remarks."

(emphasis mine)

Good for J.D., but this press release wasn't thought through very well, huh?

Last poll I saw was taken back in Sept. before the Foley scandal broke. It will be interesting to see what the next poll says!

Kolbe: My Spokeswoman Is A Liar (Or I Am)
By Paul Kiel - October 10, 2006, 1:08 PM

Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) released a statement giving his "best recollection" of the Foley incident back in 2000, that's at odds with key details of an earlier statement given by his own press secretary.

For starters, Kolbe spokeswoman Korenna Kline told The Washington Post that the congressman had personally confronted Foley about his inappropriate exchanges. Kolbe now says he merely "recommended" that the page's complaint "be passed along to Rep. Foley's office and the Clerk who supervised the Page program." (Kolbe's full statement is after the jump.)

Kline also told the WaPo that the page had showed the offending messages to Kolbe. In his statement, Kolbe denies ever seeing the messages. (A source told the WaPo that the messages, which have not been released, were "sexually explicit.")

The congressman gave no explanation for why his version of events contradicts that of his spokeswoman. Kolbe also implies now that this really wasn't his problem, since "the young man was no longer a Page and not subject to the jurisdiction of the program.”...

6. And another woman felled on the sword of truth...
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 02:58 PM by Tigress DEM
She spoke the truth so they skewered her on it instead of using it to punish those who lied.

Just a bit of a pattern here.

You told the truth, so you have to say you lied, resign, or be fired.

good jobs in the K Street lobbyist industry in exchange for taking the fall.

10. Kolbe's gay. According to Foley, he was a sexual predator due to
alcohol and being gay.

Maybe Kolbe's protecting him, since all gayo-Americans are in league with each other!!!

11. This would comport with conservative warnings.
What was the religious group that called for Hastert's resignation shortly after the Moonie Times went after him?

That group said they had been informed that there were more revelations about other Members of Congress yet to be revealed.

I guess this could be one of them.

12. Except that Kolbe's been out for awhile

Or is the revelation that Kolbe's been covering for Foley's predatory behavior?

This whole thing is so confusing.
