N. Korean War Messy but America Would Win, Says Top U.S. General

The U.S. military's top officer says the Pentagon would have sufficient forces to win if called on to fight a war in North Korea, but the conflict would be more difficult without the intelligence and guidance systems now devoted to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that slightly more than 200,000 U.S. servicemen are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, leaving more than 2 million troops available for a war on an Asian front.

But he acknowledged that a conflict with North Korea, which Pace and President George Bush have described as highly unlikely, would be heavily reliant on the Navy and Air Force because of the significant deployment of land forces in Iraq.

In addition, such an attack would not be "as clean as we would like" because guidance systems used for aiming bombs are in high demand in the Middle East.

"You wouldn't have the precision in combat going to a second theatre of war than you would if you were only going to the first theatre of war," Pace told a group of military writers.

"You end up dropping more bombs potentially to get the job done, and it would mean more brute force."

9. Overseeding for war.....it always begins like this.
We now have the blessing of the UN along with other participating nations to stop North Korean ships and search them for nuclear materials or the makings of. I can't see the US resisiting an opportunity to fuck with them and I can't imagine the NKs putting up with it.

We'll have a lot of Mr. Bolton in our future. IMHO

15. No question we would win. The question is should we attack? A related
question is if we should attack North Korea, then why not also attack India, Israel, and Pakistan?

None of the four countries are bound by the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

India, Israel, and Pakistan because they never signed and North Korea because it exercised its right and abrogated the treaty.

Ironic because Dubya abrogated the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty on 13 June 2002.

Kim Jong-il followed Dubya's precedent and gave notice of withdrawal from the NPT on January 10, 2003.

As Forrest Gump said, "Stupid is as stupid does."

17. I really believe we have insane people
running the government now. Suppose we commit 100,000 troops more to Korea, we'd still be outnumbered by a factor of 10. If we commit more troops overseas, who protects us here at home? Somebody do something please to stop these madmen.

If the US declares War against North Korea we will eventually have to invade the country and face an insurgency much tougher then what we are facing in Iraq.
