If Rep. Bob Ney doesn't IMMEDIATELY resign, Dem candidates nationally
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 05:40 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
need to run ads touting the GOP as the party with actual bribery convicts sitting in office.

If they don't, they're foolish and weak.

The effective, simple, ad campaigns possibilities are endless. You could have humorous ones, or vicious nasty biting ones, or "high ground" 'we can do better as a nation' kind of ads, or all of the above.

3. This shit writes itself. You could have the dude in his jailbird outfit,
with stripes and shackle/ball sitting in Congress, with a wide shot which then zeroes him out of the crowd.

"Q: Which political party, currently in the majority, has a member convicted of bribery still actively in office?

A: Hint: It's not the Democratic Party.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. One Party Rule has been a miserable failure for America.

Vote Democratic in November.

It's time for a change."

That's just from sitting here for a minute, right off the top of my head. How hard could it be?

Dems insist on taking the "high ground." In-your-face sound bites get attention.

On edit: I'm aware of the irony in my statement - as a child I used to get a THRILL walking thru the US Capitol. Now, I'd probably feel the need to fumigate myself...:(

8. K&R. These dishonest Republicans have no cover,
this time around. I agree with all of your suggestions. It's happening in my district in Northern NY, to unseat Congressman John Sweeney, who went to Florida in 2000, in support of Bush*, and finally has a viable and well qualified Democratic challenger, this time. :-)

ELECTIONS.

If he doesn't step down, Democrats can make hay on this BEFORE ELECTIONS.

20. Why hasn't Robert Ney been sent to prison?
I read here that he will get $13K until he resigns. He could've recieved a 10 yr. Prison Sentence had he not plead guilty to two of the many charges. Now his sentence is 1 yr. 3 months. He pleade guilty a month ago. Why hasn't he been sent to prison?

It wouldn't be the first time.

He plead guilty on Friday. Sentencing is in January. If he doesn't resign on Monday, he's a convict in Congress.

Sentencing is set for Jan. 19, by which time Ney, who is not seeking reelection, would no longer be serving in Congress. Some on Capitol Hill speculated that Ney, who has mounting legal bills, might try to stay in office a few more weeks to maintain a salary. Members of Congress earn at least $165,000 a year.

Ney's lawyer told the judge that the congressman would resign his seat in the next few weeks.

But House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), already feeling political heat over the page scandal involving former Rep. Mark Foley of Florida, could be pressured to push Ney from his committee seats when Congress reconvenes for a special session after the Nov. 7 election.

And House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. (R-Wis.) announced that he would introduce a resolution expelling Ney from the House as soon as Congress returns.

who wishes to use them or make such ads, with my blessing.

If anyone knows any creative people involved with campaigns or the national party, please feel free to forward the ideas.

ABC/Brian Ross's story was that he got access to the salacious instant messages after posting about the emails on his blog. He approached Foley about it. Foley knew his goose was cooked, told ABC he was resigning but would grant them an "exclusive interview" if they agreed not to broadcast the gory IM details. ABC/Ross said no dice, and Foley resigned immediately.
