Poll question: Do you find these Oprah comments to be racist/offensive?
Oprah talked about her humble beginnings in Mississippi, and particularly about how her mother's highest aspiration for her was that she might end up cleaning white people's houses, because "they give away nice clothes." And then Oprah pointed out that now that she's Oprah, she has "all these white people" working for her, and that in fact there's only one black person on the staff.

3. Don't watch her
and don't particularly care but I see nothing wrong with what she said. I find it difficult as a white, hetero to be real upset about others saying things that might make my white heteroness seem less than what the white hetero world thinks it is. I mean really. What in the world could be the big deal? Just me maybe.

4. Remember the scene in "Forrest Gump" about Bubba's momma?
That wasn't racist. It was irony. And maybe a little bit of karma, if you believe in that.

13. I know that watching her show in the past
even though I don't do it anymore because of time constraints, she has a tendency to give more to the black youth than she does the white youth.
Do I have a problem with this?
Not a bit.
I don't think anyone who has never been discriminated against can understand the depths of racism in this country. We can empathize, but we truly don't know how it feels.
If she can equalize that just a little with her money, good for her.

6. I know that Oprah has more than one black person on her staff
she often does "behind the scenes" shots of her studio and there are LOTS of clack people there..

If people think that Oprah is racist, then they should just not watch her.. Oprah has always spoken her mind..

This tack is just another jab..and a lame attempt to create division.. It's the onjly tactic they have left..

8. Exactly. Oprah has a diverse staff. That article is nonsense.
Oprah certainly enjoys her life, but I don't think she's the "lording over" kind of person.

11. I do not think Oprah is racist, but I think her views are sometimes
politically incorrect, maybe. She has made comments about different black people and talks about black people who are mixed and black people who are what she called "blue black." I thought that was weird, but not necessarily racist. I do notice a difference in skin tones between people. We all do. Noting it is not necessarily racist. I'm one white person, although I am really mixed, who would not mind working for Oprah.

15. If said by a white person, would it be considered racist or offensive?
Slightly offensive, borderline racist, IMO.
