Lieberman REFUSES To Support A Democratic Win In November
Joe Lieberman In No Man's Land
A Longtime Democrat, Now In Opposition, Is In Strange Company
October 15, 2006

By MARK PAZNIOKAS, Courant Staff Writer Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, a lifelong Democrat and student of politics, blanked when asked if America would be better off with his party regaining control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

A Democratic victory would immeasurably boost the influence of two Connecticut friends, U.S. Reps. Rosa L. DeLauro and John B. Larson, and provide a counterbalance to the Republican Senate and White House.

"Uh, I haven't thought about that enough to give an answer," Lieberman said, as though Democrats' strong prospects for recapturing the House hadn't been the fall's top political story.

He was similarly elusive about the race for governor. Is he voting for John DeStefano Jr., a Democrat and mayor of the city where Lieberman has lived since the 1960s?

"I'm, uh, I'm having," he stammered, then laughed and said his decision would remain private.

1. If he wins he will switch parties
I've thought so all along and this confirms it for me. I would hope the voters in his state would figure that out.

3. I hope the 35% of Dems who are still voting for him
realize they are voting for a Republican.

5. They won't until it's too late.
Then when he switches parties they will be all angry about it. There are a couple of people I know who still think he is a solid Democrat and such a good man. If worse comes to worse I will be calling them after Joe switches parties and ask them how they feel about it now. :grr:

9. Add my mother to that list! I'll never understand why she doesn't see it!
Accept that politics is politics and she knows lieberman on a first name basis if she needs anything she can call him. It makes me so mad!

10. Get this article to your friends.
They won't like his unwillingness to support Dems. And if they ever thought he was principled, they won't like his unwillingness to say what he believes.

4. Here is some evidence of a possible quid pro quo with Rove
-insight magazine-

"The White House funneled millions of dollars through major Republican Party contributors to Sen. Joseph Lieberman’s primary campaign in a failed effort to ensure the support of the former Democrat for the Bush administration.

A senior GOP source said the money was part of Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove's strategy to maintain a Republican majority in the Senate in November. The source said Mr. Rove, together with Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, directed leading pro-Bush contributors to donate millions of dollars to Mr. Lieberman's campaign for re-election in Connecticut in an attempt that he would be a "Republican-leaning" senator."

11. The Courant is CT's largest paper.
Its circulation is about 100,000.

It was plastered across today's front page.

But it is up to the Lamont campaign to keep this front and center. And it is up to his suppporters to pass this around, write LTTE's, apply pressure to our own local papers to cover this, and generally talk it up.

7. When will it hit the pukes that that they may vote for him, but he will
become a puke...Will they think they wasted their vote on a Democrat? Can they actually get themselves to vote for a Democrat?

8. At one time I admired Lieberman. No more!
He is a sore loser to say the least but I think he has been promised Sec. of Def. position if he wins. Power is what he wants. He doesn't care about the people of CT or this country. He was defeated in the primary and now has the gall to defy the electorate for his own gains. That in itself is enough to keep me from voting for him for any position.

12. Look at who is raising his $(Bush/Rove supporters)--all you need to know
about his loyalty to the Democratic Party.

He is trying to play both ends against the middle, no matter who wins the majority in the Senate.

If he will not support the Democratic Party now, who in their wildest dreams would expect him to support the Democratic Party after the next election in Nov??

14. Of course he does. He's a Republican.
It's a done deal. But he'll wait 'til the election's over and the outcome is clear before he decides to make it official. If Repigs maintain their majority in the Senate (or if it's 51/49, Democrats), he'll jump the aisle. If the Dems have a two-seat or more majority, he'll continue to pretend to be a Democrat.
