1. "Spin" is a term invented by Mike Deaver during Reagan
The word 'spin' is a GOP public relations triumph from the Reagan years. It was then that the Republicans started sending representatives en masse to seek out reporters after every major speech or event to endlessly repeat the pre-approved slant -- usually authored by Lee Atwater.

Deaver was so proud of implementing the original "spin" process that he named it and owned up to it. Rather than be insulted, the press was charmed and amused by the audacity of the idea -- as they usually are when Republicans are president.

"Smoking gun" is another term that comes out of Republican perfidy. In the run-up to Nixon's resignation, it was said of many right-wing Republicans that it would take a 'smoking gun' in Nixon's hands before they'd vote to impeach him.

Lots of our current political terminology has been derived from the endless dishonesty of the Republican Party.
