In Alaska there are six different official parties placed on the ballot
The Green Party, The Independent Party, The Libertarian Party, The Democratic Party, The Republican Party, and (this is no lie) The Moderate Republican Party.

2. Is that the party of Ike?
They used to have a party to get out of the Union. I used to know people who voted to come in and were very sorry and they were Alaskan born which makes them pretty odd people in Alaska. Two I knew came up looking for gold, or their parents had.

4. That was the Alaska Independent Party...
They were/are kind of wacko, although getting out of the Union doesn't sound like such a bad idea.

3. The Moderate Republican party

They are for real, and actually kind of refreshing.

"We favor an open, tolerant government. We're best described as moderately conservative on fiscal issues and moderately liberal on social issues, with a twist of Libertarianism. The Republican Moderate Party was formed to maintain open primary elections, curtail the influence of the Religious Right and set a higher standard for open honest government. To these ends, we have been to Alaska's Supreme Court three times to kick down obstacles placed in our path by Alaska's Legislature at the direction of the Republican Party of Alaska. We support choice, equal rights without exclusion, and a level playing field without tolerance for corporate greed, corruption, or favoritism."
