Fundies are "disgusted" with Condi (Americablog)
http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/10/evangelical-christians-are-disgusted.html

Well this is getting fun. The religious right is, predictably, freaking out that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice last week swore in the new AIDS Czar and referred to his partner's mother as his "mother in law." Naturally, America's hate groups swung into action in order to bash Rice and gays.

First the gay-bashing from the religious right hate group the Family Research Council:

"We have to face the fact that putting a homosexual in charge of AIDS policy is a bit like putting the fox in charge of the henhouse."

Gee, that's funny. Bashing a fag and people with AIDS in the same breath - can the n-word jokes be far behind?

As for Condi Rice, the article goes on to point out that the hate groups were profoundly offended that she treated the gay man with respect, and they were offended, apparently, that gay people were permitted to touch Bibles. (Which is ironic, because I'm offended that religious right pseudo-Christians are allowed to touch Bibles.)

It would be her duty to swear in people on the level of ambassador, since ambassadors would be under the State Department.

13. I think they mean that...
gayness causes AIDS. Therefore, gays deliberately spread AIDS. Therefore, a gay person dealing with AIDS policy is like a fox in the hen house.

As an aside, it's a bit scary to think that I can fill in the blanks in their "thought" process.

26. Exactly!! The Religious Right doesn't exactly understand the concept ...
... of "the fox guarding the henhouse."

Given that the hens, in this case, are those suffering from (and most prone to) AIDS, I would say that this is a bizarro-world Bush Admin appointment: for the first time, the Bush Admin has chosen NOT to put the fox in charge of the henhouse.

As demonstrated by the viciousness of their comments, the "fox" in this scenario would be those Religious Right and other leaders portraying AIDS as righteous justice for the "moral failures" of its victims. Can you just imagine our AIDS policy with James Dobson in charge? (I expect it would be about as effective as an energy policy put together by Ken Lay.)

So "kudos!" to whoever slipped this appointment by Karl Rove. The Bush Admin managed to get the "advocacy" concept right, for once.

I never understood her high numbers. It's almost like compaired to all the others in the cabinet, she is the one most likely able to stay awake in a 45 minute meeting, so they gave her good focus group numbers.

Heck, someone in the admin needed good numbers, right?

21. Could it be a Condi breakaway in prep for '08?
She could be taking steps to distance herself from the GOP as she lays the groundwork for a 2008 run. The 'base' is NEVER going to like her, anyway (I believe she is somewhat pro-choice if I am not in error), she may be testing the water with constituencies usually associated with the left, presaging a split in the GOP between hard core 'social conservatives' and social moderates who support the supposed 'war on terror'. The demographics of a Condi run would be most fascinating, strictly speaking as one who studied, designed and run polls; the left ignores her at our peril.

Too many Republican primary voters won't accept a woman, and certainly not an unmarried woman, atop their ticket. They might be forced to swallow a Rice nod for VP, but I think the next two years we'll start to see enough Bush-fatigue that none of his top lieutentants will be viable... until 2016.

the RW talibornagains can now fully realize that they've been laughed at and scorned by the very people they voted (and even stole!) for.

If I were them, I'd stay home on Election Day and pray, or maybe read that new book about how the Republican elites hate their guts.

Anyone else of good faith, please vote for a Dem. we're the party that strives to live in the way that Christ spoke of.

Even the non-Christians and atheists in this party are better Christians than the elite Republican leadership. Believe it.

As I said, so far as the position itself - fine - he's probably a great appointment. What Rice did was unneccessary and gives the homosexual lobby the idea that there is a serious rift in the GOP stance on gay marriage. She has to know that her actions are scrutinized on every level. She's not some undersecretary to the Ambassador of B.F.E. She's the Secretary of State - the top diplomat.

It's the people who would be "very distressed" by Rice being kind and inviting to the family of an appointee at an official function who I hope aren't interested in running for any office.
If it wasn't this incident, it would just be something else.

"she should apologize or step down."

To whom should she apologize? And why should she step down. Her position as Secretary of State has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with marriage laws in the United States of America. Her job is in foreign affairs.

For pete's sake.

I find it shocking that Pres. Bush would nominate someone who is a practicing homosexual for the AIDS position. Anyone speaking honestly knows that the homosexual lifestyle leads to AIDS. Makes one question if we are really trying to stop the spread of AIDS? Really disappointed with Pres. Bush on this issue.
