Why is everyone talking about prez choices in 08...
...when we are on the eve of mid term elections?

It seems distracting to me. What do you think?

2. bad us.... my 8 yr old and i were talking about 2008 last night
about who we want but ultimately how the dems have a lot of good choices. and how excited we are.

we can talk about 2008, and 2006 and foley, and corruption, and policy, and social issues and and and.... without distraction, multifaceted we are

3. I'll get flamed for this reason but...
..the fact is that talking about 2008 doesn't require people to actually do anything other than shoot their mouths off or type posts on a message board. 2006 is a few weeks away and focusing on that would require more than just rhetoric and would require actual action. And as much as we all like to think we're making an actual difference, the fact is that in the age of the internet far too many people (I say just as many on the left as on the right) think that blogging or posting on message boards is actually doing something that makes a difference.

So by focusing on 2008 people have an excuse for their inaction on that subject.

I'm not saying I'm any better or any different, but I'm just being honest about it here.

4. Personally I think it's
a huge waste of time. Plus, the discussion revolves almost exclusively around Clinton, Gore, Kerry (in alphabetical order, no preference on my part) rather than look out to truly new blood. In my opinion we should not even be thinking about 08 until the middle of next year, and then and only then be looking to see who has shown real leadership at that point. The three I named are all a looking backward, and that's the last thing we should be doing.

Just my two cents.

5. Hey , I can chew gum and type at the same time, too.
Frankly, it takes 3-4 yrs to properly set up the committees, the aides, the basic money and the locations in greater 46 states. (everyone ignores Hawaii and Rhode Island, among others.)

So, is it inappropriate to talk about how things are going 2 yrs in advance? hardly. A person serious about a presidential run, in a country of 300,000,000, cannot wait until the last minute. And the last minute was about a year ago.

6. 08 talk stems largely from the rights obsession with HILLARY
They have been talking about it non stop since 2002

7. It's all the same election. From city council Nov. 7th to the White House
in 2012 and on.

The two are connected, not separate events. If we build a stronger Democratic Party at the local level in Montana and Alabama, it's easier for statewide officials to be more people-directed. It's more possible to field more progressive candidates and run on more progressive platforms with a strong party infrstructure backing you up.
