1. Recommended.
Be efficient. Call Reid. Ask him to do his job.

And call the 43 other Democrats and ask them to do their job.

And call the 8 senators that are blocking a filibuster. Landrieu is one.

14. Nah, the Capitol Switchboard is open 24 hours! Toll-free!
Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 08:39 PM by Wordie
Capitol switchboard numbers:

1-888 355 3588
1-888 818 6641
1-877 851 6437

Just tell the operator which Senator you wish to speak to and you will be connected to their office, where you can leave a message, even after hours.

And these are toll-free!

9. From here - they dont give the names though, but
we can probably bet on the 7 democrats who signed the compromise + one person.

2. If we are doomed, then fight out of spite.
If you give up, you are handing them a victory. Even if we have no chance, don't help them by quitting. Make those bastards work for every single fucking inch.

5. Absolutely. We will never win if we quit.....Never. We spend a lot of
time complaining about Dems with no backbone...so we shouldn't be the spineless cowards that we detest. The anti- choice croud has come from behind by fighting tooth and nail. We have to do the same. Do not give up.

I am TOTALLY negative about this, but I am still going through the motions of emailing faxing etc.

Base line is...action is better than inaction regardless of outcome!

:D

Best antidote to the naysayers, who are certain the Dems are "spineless":

Were they spineless when they filibustered the Patriot Act???

16. Also contact your Republican Senators about not nuking a filibuster!
Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 09:47 PM by drm604
Explain to them why they should not vote for a rules change if Alito if filibustered. They often act because of massive organized outpourings from a vocal minority. See converted_democrat's thread about how they do this: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=2376136

We need to do the same. Overwhelm them with emails, faxes, and phone-calls (especially faxes and phone calls). Contact all of their local and DC offices. See my thread about this for some ideas about what to say: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2383579

DO THIS! REPEATEDLY! EVEN IF YOU THINK ITS HOPELESS WITH YOUR PARTICULAR SENATOR OR SENATORS. Leave no stone unturned. Even if they're not swayed, they may compare notes with others who may be swayed if they see that the outpouring is nationwide.

I'm calling every senator I can, and especially those whose states I used to live in (and there are plenty). And I'm keeping it polite, concise, and to the point. "Stand up for us NOW!"

On edit: summary of my cross-post
Kerry's office says they're working on a filibuster. They said to call your senators and tell them to do it.
