EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Rep. Peter King (R-NY) Says That Being In Baghdad Is ‘Like Being In Manhattan’ »
On Feb. 9, 2006, House Homeland Security Chairman Peter King (R-NY) spoke at the Merrick Jewish Center in Merrick, NY. King told his constituents that “the situation is more stable than you think.” He cited “bumper to bumper traffic,” shopping centers, restaurants, video stores, vendors, and hotels to conclude that being in Baghdad is “like being in Manhattan.” ThinkProgress has obtained exclusive video from a person who was at the event. Watch it:

You've just committed a treasonous act almost as bad as the Blabbermouths at the NYT...

2. Well, then he wont mind a little vaction there!
Tell him to put his money where his mouth is!

Take a little vacation to Baghdad, and visit those shopping centers and restaurants. Bring a video crew with you, so we know what its really like. Bullet proof armor? You dont need that! Just get out there in a suit and tie and shake hands with the wonderful Iraqi citizens!

Then he should be fine going over there without body armor.

there is no traffic moving at all in Baghdad at night.

11. Inside the Green Zone, maybe
but the rest of the place is a hell hole. Judging the success of the war in Iraq by just looking at the Green Zone is disingenuous to say the least. I dare him to take a car and drive 50 miles in any direction outside the Green Zone and drive back and then say the place is like Manhattan.

Betcha he won't do it!

Is he talking about the Green Zone? If so then why doesn't he say that? If not then why is he allowed to lie?

His latest campaign ads have been him saying he supports torture, and how the war in Iraq is the best thing since sliced bread.

Also Mosul is way out of the Green Zone. So yes, King is insane.

18. K & R. I would contribute to the cost of a plane ticket for Mr. King
one way to the "Big Apple" of the Middle East. I hear the night life is to-die-for (the "day life" too for that matter).

21. I'd like to formally propose that we buy him a plane ticket
(commercial, mind you, no government planes) to Baghdad, via Jordan, and that we purchase him a nice room in downtown Baghdad for two weeks (sorry, no Green Zone), and that we insist that he take his wife and his children there, with no guards.

Its just like Manhattan so he'll be fine.

Oh, and he can take videos of all the friendly Iraqis and bring them home with him to prove how nice it is over there to all the cynics.
