DNC Should Provide Air Cover to "Bled and Crawled" Dems
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 01:27 PM by CorpGovActivist
If I may be permitted to pick on the DNC a little bit here: like many Americans (yes, including many Republicans) I was aghast to see how Shrubya and Racketeering Rove treated John McCain in 2000, and Max Cleland in 2002.

Now, we're seeing John Murtha attacked in PA, and Tammy Duckworth attacked in Illinois.

Here in Virginia, George "Macaca-mamie Excuses for Bigotry" Allen is pulling no punches in casting stones at the multi-generational military service of Jim Webb.

If Lee Atwater were alive today, and if he were a Democrat, he wouldn't say, "Nuh-uh. We're not cut and run Democrats. Don't define us that way. Oh, my God. Look! Do you see? Do you see? They're defining us with a label we don't deserve! Oh, the horror!"

He would hit back, hard, and nation-wide. He would pour DNC money into a standard commercial that began something like this (narrated by Max Cleland):

"President Bush and Karl Rove are at it again. Ashamed of their own non-existent military service, they dishonor the military service of those who actually did something in their nation's uniform.

We are not the party of cut and run. We are the party of Bled and Crawled. It is *our* sons, *our* daughters, and *our* candidates who can point proudly to a chest full of ribbons.

These are all of our House and Senate candidates this year who have personally served, or who have spouses, siblings, or children who have served (cut to picture of all the candidates, with Tammy Duckworth and other wounded veterans in the front row). They are not cut and runners, Mr. President. Like Tammy Duckworth, who lost both her legs fighting your war of choice, she is a bled and crawler.

(cut to customized local angle)

Here in (fill in the blank with Congressional District or State), (fill in the blank with the name of the Democratic candidate who is being portrayed as a cut and runner) is facing the latest smear campaign, engineered by a college dropout who wouldn't pick up a gun in service to his country (flash to unflattering photo of KKKarl Rove). His/her opponent, (fill in the blank with the GOP nominee) has refused to repudiate the White House attacks here in (fill in locality).

Here in (whereever), we know that patriotism can be found in both parties. So next time you hear a Republican extremist parrot back Karl Rove's 'cut and run' soundbite, ask them - how many in your party bled and crawled?"

1. Yes, learn the lessons from 2004
Don't let them get momentum in another swift boat campaign. Call them out on the mat for the fight this time.

2. The Lessons Go Back to 2000...
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 02:16 PM by CorpGovActivist
... after what they did to McCain in the 2000 primaries, neither 2002 (Cleland) nor 2004 (Kerry) should have come as any surprise to the DNC.

In other words, if Shrubya and Racketeering Rove will do that to one of their own party members (a former POW), what made anyone believe that they'd show any scruples against Cleland or Kerry?

Sometimes, giving the bully a "time-out" just doesn't cut it. Sometimes, the other kids on the playground have to gang up and beat the ever-living snot out of him.

If the little girl across the street could put KKKarl down on the pavement (acting alone), why can't the Dems (acting together, with some help from those in the GOP who are fed up with Rove's Peter Principle Performance)?

5. This is one of those times that calls for toughness
I wish I could find that little girl, wherever she is today, and shake her hand. Maybe she could be convinced to pay him another visit. I'd even hold Karl down for her.

8. This goes back to impeachment. GOPs impeached Clinton for NOTHING.
And the media helped them do it every step of the way. No impeachment, no Goring, no swiftboating could have happened without media complicity.

3. Max Cleland could do...
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 03:31 PM by IdesOfOctober
... amazing good, sitting in a recording studio, recording the main narration, and then doing the pick-ups of the local spot narratives.

This would place less physical stress on him, and allow him to rest up for a final push of actual appearances in the last week of the campaign.

He'd reach many more households, in many more tight races ...

... and what sweet payback that would be to Bush/Rove.

Ides

P.S. As an added cherry on top, I'd imagine this would be very cathartic for him, given what he was put through.

4. The DNC Could Pay Him for Narrating, Right?
They'd pay a "professional" narrator, so why not a true blue war hero?

Or, he could disclaim it in favor of the NMFA: http://www.nmfa.org

6. How does that go? They bring a fist, you bring a bat,
They bring a knife, you bring a gun.

Still good advice.

7. You're quoting Sean Connery in "The Untouchables."
And the quote is:

"You want to get Capone? Here's what ya do.
He brings a knife, you bring a gun.
He puts one of yours in the hospital, you put one of his in the morgue.
That's the Chicago way."

Don't be ashamed that you don't know the quote. Neither do the Pink Tutu Democrats.

"Daddy Dubya brought a knife, we brought a cake!"
