VP:‘General Overall Situation’ In Iraq Is Going ‘Remarkably Well'
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/10/17/cheney-rush/

CHENEY: Well, I think there’s some natural level of concern out there because in fact, you know, it wasn’t over instantaneously. It’s been a little over three years now since we went into Iraq, so I don’t think it’s surprising that people are concerned.

On the other hand, this government has only been in office about five months, five or six months now. They’re off to a good start. It is difficult, no question about it, but we’ve now got over 300,000 Iraqis trained and equipped as part of their security forces. They’ve had three national elections with higher turnout than we have here in the United States. If you look at the general overall situation, they’re doing remarkably well.

It’s still very, very difficult, very tough. Nobody should underestimate the extent to which we’re engaged there with this sort of, at present, the “major front” of the war on terror. That’s what Osama bin Laden says, and he’s right.

1. it's true!
remarkably - as in worthy of discussion and debate
well - a dark, dank, scary place that seems endlessly deep, and is impossible to crawl out of without help. Sometimes filled with water.

3. still got an atmosphere, still got a few folks walking around,
still got an airport to land in (with extreme caution)

Hey, what is supposed to be wrong here? It's no different than Manhattan!

4. Yes, it is remarkable.
A lot of people are remarking about Iraq. A lot of people used to remark about it, but they're dead now.

I'd like to remark about what a fool and a tool President Cheney is.

7. OBL is having a belly laugh as Cheney plays right into his hands. Sad.

9. Dick.....Dick......Dick, Dick, Dick, Dick............
what the hell are YOU talking about?? All bushco 'wars' are/have been a train wreck and are becoming worse with each passing day. I can not wait to remember what reality is like, once bushco has been neutralized, then later gone.

10. "Bagdad Dick" thinks things are going swimmingly? Ok. Good enough for
me. Considering he was spot on about the WMDs and all that.

11. hundreds of bodies bound and tortured discovered
repeatedly? Often? And now it is so common that it barely is a blip on the radar. He speaks as if we are only concerned about how long we have been there instead of what has actually happened during this time.

Women who were professionals in secular Iraq are now forced to cover themselves, be escorted by men and are often, raped and/or killed to intimdate them into not working or having any independence.

Election turn-out? A government 6 mos old? Training Iraqi security forces? Fairy tales of irrelevance. We aren't fighting Al Qaida. They are Iraqis telling us to leave or we are just in the cross-fire of an existing local fight.

Tell us about that meeting in Prague Cheney while you're lying and all. They tell this narrative again and again as if the only information we can get is the bullshit from them.

They think we're idiots and they get away with it because no one can confront them.

Liars. Torturers. Murderers. Fascists. :grr:

13. Remember, these folks create their own reality
Dick Cheney is an evil bastard and hopefully he and the rest of this administration will face justice for their many heinous crimes!

Question: Could it be that the situation in Iraq as it exists today is regarded as less than failure because it is the kind of destabilizing situation thet the Neocons wanted in the region all along?

These people are evil but they are also cunning and have agendas that don't reflect the values of the people they supposedly represent. If their goals were truly what they publicly have stated (stable democratic ally) they would have to admit failure. If those goals were only a subterfuge for spreading disorder and chaos to attain other goals then perhaps they would be less likely to admit defeat and insist on "staying the course" (ostensibly to bring that "democracy" to full term). Don't forget they expect to be at war for "decades". How can that possibly be to the benefit of Mr. and Ms. America?
