Internet user admits 'web-rage'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6059726.stm

An internet user has been found guilty of what police said was Britain's first "web-rage" attack.
Paul Gibbons, 47, tracked down John Jones using details obtained online after the pair exchanged insults in an internet chatroom, a court heard.

He travelled 70 miles to Mr Jones' home in Clacton, Essex, and beat him up with a pickaxe handle in December 2005. Gibbons, of Southwark, south London, admitted unlawful wounding and will be sentenced on 7 November.

The pair met in an internet chatroom called Yahoo, Islam 10 as both had an interest in the Muslim faith, the Old Bailey was told. Their exchanges soured after Gibbons accused Mr Jones of spreading rumours about him.

Gibbons, a man with a violent past, traced Mr Jones to his home using personal details about himself that he had put online.

2. Sounds like a freeper
Hell, I've received death threats from freepers, including AZ Joe, who demanded I send directions to my house. I emailed him a map of Crawford, TX.

All the same, it tends to be a good idea to keep fairly anonymous on these things. I mean goodness, Clacton is not too far from where I live.

12. A student in my niece's high school
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 01:48 PM by TlalocW
Demanded directions to my house. I told him people like him might be stupid enough to give out directions to anonymous people over the net, but I wasn't. He then started in with calling me coward. I offered to meet him at the McDonalds in the town that he lived in as some of my family lives there, and I visit often, and I would even buy him a Happy Meal before he commenced to "Kicking a mudhole in my chest." He didn't take me up on the offer.

My niece eventually went up to him in school and told him, "My uncle lifts weights and is 3 times bigger than you. Quit threatening him, you dumbass."

He was upset with me because I had corrected some quotes on a, "Stupid Things Famous People Say," email that my niece had sent out. I replied all and corrected the quotes that had been misattributed to Al Gore to the correct person who said them, Dan Quayle. I then made a joke about just listen to Bush for 10 seconds, and you'll get a stupid quote. He took offense.

10. Yes, there is lawful wounding and even lawful killing
If it's done in self-defense. Definitions of all of the above vary somewhat from state to state, but basicically you are justified in using physical force against someone who is physically attacking you.

were particularly severe. When somebody constantly fucks with your head online, but doesn't have the courage to either speak with you in person, or even speak the e-truth, it can drive you insane.

This is an imperfect mode of communication. Sometimes it's fantastic and sometimes it's the devil.
