Bob Etheridge (D-NC) appears to be in a safe seat this time
Representative Etheridge is running against a Publican named Dan Mansell. Mr. Mansell manages a commercial painting company.

The only way Dan Mansell could beat Bob Etheridge, who is very popular in his district, would be to hire someone to run him over with a steamroller or something, but this is kinda entertaining anyway.

Mansell's website (http://www.mansellforcongress.com) lists him as a supporter of the so-called "FairTax" national sales tax scheme. He wants to totally eliminate the federal income tax.

The fact that, according to http://www.fayettevillenc.com/article?id=244659, he just finalized a repayment plan on the $220,000 he's behind on his federal income tax has Absolutely Nothing At All to do with his hatred of the IRS.

Oh yeah. You'll just LOVE this Mansell press release: http://www.mansellforcongress.com/press053106.htm. In it he rants against Bob Etheridge's "standing tall for the liberal agenda in Washington" as he voted against the "American-Made Energy and Good Jobs Act" (H.R. 5429), which was "a bill that aimed at lowering gas prices and creating jobs across the nation." The only reason I can think of that a "liberal" who ain't all that liberal would vote against such a high-minded bill is that the only thing the bill actually did was to open ANWR to oil drilling.
