Home and Knitting!
I am home finally! It feels great! The only painkiller I can take is ibuprofen, and it's mostly working. That cut rib sure hurts, though. Anyway, it's great to be home. I got to knit some in the hospital yesterday (Binka's son's sock that will be done when, you know, he has grandkids or something), and it felt so amazingly good.

We're still waiting on pathology (must be nice to refuse to work weekends except for "emergencies"), but the surgeon doesn't expect anything weird or scary. We'll see, though. The tumor was quite a bit larger than the CT had shown it to be (by over 2") and up under my liver, so that's why the incision is far longer than he'd planned. He did a gorgeous job on it, though. Even one of his partners said that it is prettier than his usual work. ;) He even hid it in a wrinkle on my waist, which was really considerate. He felt bad that it is over 12" long, though, which I think is funny. I mean, why would I care how long it is? Big scar or cancer? Hmmm. I think I'll take the big scar. ;)

Oh, and it was fun talking politics with the nurses and the support staff. ;) Good Dems.

3. keep those fingers flying!
glad to see you are home, i read your previous post, i'm sure you are more comfortable now in your own surroundings.

i lost a rib, years ago due to a blood clot in my upper chest/collarbone area. Never missed it.
Scars are the trophies you can show in later life of your victories.

Peace, health and happiness to you.

5. Glad to hear you're home. Take it easy and take the ibuprofens when
you need them. After I had my bypass surgery in 2000, the only thing I found uncomfortable was the broken breastbone. I had to kinda sleep sitting up in bed for the first 4 weeks or so. I can sympathise.

Just think about all the knitting you'll get done, while recuperating. God knows there really is nothing worth watching on TV during the day.

17. Good thing I avoid that anyway.
;) I hate weeding. If it were up to me, I'd just let everything grow and see what happens, but my hubby actually likes to eat out of the garden . . . At least the hard frosts we're getting have ended the growing season here. At the rate I'm hurting, though, I don't know about the fall bulbs, though. I hope I can con someone into planting them.

20. How should I entertain?
Tales of my Republican MIL having to straighten our magazines when they're all Atlantic, Harper's, and the Nation? :) I've had fun watching her pretend she can't see the headlines or what mags they are. Does that make me evil?

18. Good to hear you're doing well. My experience with tumors is that they are
almost ALWAYS a bit bigger than the doctor first thought.

Get plenty of rest. Hearts are with you.

25. Update: path's back.
It took so long because three pathologists got involved and are now sending it to another guy, a specialist who only does kidney tumors. They don't know what it is, but they all agree that it's weird. It looks like cancer in part of it and benign tumor in another area, so they're confused. If the specialist decides it's cancer, then it's stage three with clean margins, so that means icky medicine for a long time to make sure it doesn't spread anywhere. If he says it's benign, I'm done and just need to heal up.

I'm still scared--it all sounds bad to me with what they're describing and now the medical options. I'm going to go start a new shawl and see if that calms me down. Some Knitty.com friends sent me care packages. :)

27. Hang in there--one step at a time.
It took two needle biopsies and removal of my thyroid gland before they were able to determine my tumors were benign. You never know . . . .

Please keep us updated--we're hoping the best for you.

30. I'd say "of course it will be," but we both know that's not always true.
But you have friends and family to support you no matter what the outcome, and that's a great thing to take comfort in.

Hang in there!
