DU vets: Would you put on the uniform again?
Six months ago if you had asked me 'would I put on a uniform again' I would have said yes without thinking twice.

Now...how can I when what I swore an oath to defend is but a shadow of it's former self?

1. Fraid I wouldn't fit the uniform anymore.
It would take more than Basic to pour me back into the ol' jungle fatigues.

7. Me too! I've gained 50 lbs in 40 years
Depends on where I perceived the threat was coming from. At my age I don't have a lot to lose but I'd still have to believe in what I was doing, not some bullshit made up terra alert.

3. I didn't want to put it on in the first place. I was drafted and I am
proud to say that I never got a re-up talk. The military didn't want me either.

12. You were asked, you just don't remember
This dumb draftee remembers vividly when my section Master Sargent apologized before he gave me the re-up talk, explaining he was required to do it; all enlisted troops are asked before they leave the service.

13. I think that's right
After my two years were about up I got that talk. I said something like, "Are you serious Top." He said it was required, or something like that. Being drafted is like being sent to prison for a crime you didn't commit.

15. The E-7 who asked me had already announced that he was
getting out after 14 (iirc). He made sort of a joke of asking me.

9. 4 eternal years in the Marine Crotch cured me of that idea.
I can't imagine a relapse into the notion that being in a uniform is somehow beneficial to anyone other than the bosses.

10. No F**KING WAY!
1) I thought we learned our lesson when I hung mine up in 1973, but we didn't
2) Serve a president who refused to serve, himself because he "had better things to do?" No way!
3) 75 lb heavier, 40 years older and wiser
4) This administration has made a mockery out of people who serve by not only violating the constitution, but trying to destroy it.
5) I don't want to get torchered in a way that this administration approves of
6) My present duty to my country is to help kick these crooks out!

17. Medically Ineglible
In fact I had to leave the service for it. However, if they would give me my old job back, I could be tempted.
