Read It, Learn It, Live By It:
Being vindictive is never an honorable act. It is an act that simply cannot be justified righteously and should be aggressively condemned whenever identified. A truly wise being would refuse to ever intentionally cause harm to another.

4. The political process is not for you my friend.
Like it or not, it is nasty and often ruthless. Would be nice if it wasn't, but it is, and basically always has been. There is a basic premise you need to latch on to: the Republicans are destroying our country. They are not simply enacting policies with which we disagree. They are killing our kids and dismantling our Constitution. Pretty heavy stuff. You can hold your head high and always take the high road, stay above the fray, don't dignify the swiftboat lies with an answer, don't dare use a hypocrite's sexual preference or his bigoted party's reaction to it against him, vote "Green" rather than for a Democrat that you disagree with on one thing (to help a Republican which you disagree about everything). Do all those things and feel righteous and "truly wise". And LOSE- to people that are destroying our country. Hand wringing and righteousness in politics are for losers. Coffee is for closers.

7. Wrong.
There have been many leaders that have not been forced to resort to such tactics in order to help make this country great. But if you require this thinking in order to self-justify ethically deplorable behavior, than have at it. But don't think for a second that those who are truly strong and fit to lead buy that immensely misguided concept.

Fighting back and fighting hard are honorable characteristics. Please note, however, that there is a huge gap between that and flat out vindictiveness. If you can't see the difference, and consider the latter to be the only means of victory, than I truly, truly, feel for you.

15. Well, I did! And it came up with this.
"Disposed to seek revenge; revengeful."

Then I looked up OMC, and it came up with "obtuse poster who seeks to muddle issues". Fancy that.

18. How ironic is that?
The definition of vindictiveness as you see it is very relevant to the discussion. However, instead of answering the question as stated, you advise the poster to, and I quote, "read a dictionary".

You know, to me, that response was vindictive. There was no need to be snippy, and yet you were.

13. Leaders who help make the country great have already been elected.
There is a deference between being able to lead the country and winning elections. George McGovern would have undoubtedly been a great leader. We will never know however because he got pounded by the Nixon dirty tricks machine. Was JFK great? Better not look too deeply into how he won Illinois. I might suggest being a little less pretentious and maybe seeing how the real world works. Or don't, you will at least keep your righteousness intact.

19. This political process has brought us what?

Ineptitude and corruption. A Constitution that is worth less and less. We are now a Nation that condones torture and spies on its own citizens. So many Americans are turned off by these "politics as usual" tactics. How many of these disaffected people would be a part of our base?

5. How about some context OMC.
" A truly wise being would refuse to ever intentionally cause harm to another." sounds kind of pansy-assed coming from your keyboard.

9. Sometimes I think, "screw honor"
no point in being honorable when you are the only one practicing.

I can see the virtues.

But for too long, the Dems have tied their hands while insisting on playing nice.

I say out em all

16. If that is what this this thread is about...
...then I can only say, no. Tar and feather them for their political positions, and God knows they deserve it, but their private life is just that, private. I distinguish no person for their sexual preference, nor demean others for their's.

17. but in many cases, their political positions are hypocritical
if they are going to claim family values and promote anti-gay legislation because their fellow congressmen say that being gay is immoral and is a decision that should not be rewarded with special rights, then they should be outed.

Why?

Because it speaks volumes about their character.

In the privacy of their home (or their partner's home, or a hotel, or whatever), they can do whatever they want, but if the things they do go against their very standards of morality and decency, the voters should know.

20. I know, I know.. you're right in so many respects...
... but it's their definition of "family values" that is wrong. And their "anti-gay agenda". I'm straight, but sometimes I think twice about YELLING my support for same sex marriage. I can't imagine how many times my not-straight friends have held their tongues, for fear of retribution.

Fight the ideas, not the people. I try my best for that ideal, but often fail. Maybe that's what OMC was talking about, but that would be giving him way too much credit. :)

As long as "aggressively condemning" does not involve being vindictive, lol.
