11. Faxes are fast and easy, imho. |
|
You can format your letter for greater emphasis. Also, you aren't relying on someone else to relay the message, which I like, too.

9. Here are some Senators to call: |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 09:30 PM by Wordie
These aren't posted in any order of priority. Use your own judgement about who to contact first:
These are the Republicans who have not yet declared how they will vote:
Susan Collins (ME) (A moderate Republican Gang of 14 member) Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) (A moderate Republican Gang of 14 member) Olympia Snowe (R-ME) (A moderate Republican Gang of 14 member) Smith Stevens Vitter Voinovich
These Senate Dems are moderates, and are members of the crucial Gang of 14. They need to be encouraged to vote no and to resist efforts by Frist to invoke the nuclear option.
Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) (He hasn't said how he'll vote yet.) Ben Nelson (D-NE) (He plans to vote for Alito. He needs to hear your opposition) Mark Pryor (D-AR) Ken Salazar (D-CO) (He has said he would vote "No" on Alito, but said today that he doesn't plan to support a filibuster. Call and tell him why he's wrong on that.)
These Republican Senators, although they have decided to vote "yes" on Alito, should be called with your opposition to him anyway, as they are members of the crucial Gang of 14. They need to be convinced NOT to support the "nuclear option":
Mike DeWine (R-OH) Lindsey Graham (R-SC) I tried to contact him recently, there was no option to leave him a message. Either try in the morning, or try a FAX or email John McCain (R-AZ) John Warner (R-VA)
And here are undeclared Democrats:
Bayh Bingaman Robert Byrd (D-WV) Cantwell Carper Conrad DAyton Dorgan Daniel Inouye (D-HI) Johnson Mary Landrieu (D-LA) lautenberg Levin Lieb Lincoln Menendez Pryor Rockefeller Sarbanes
You might also contact the Senate's lone Independent: Sen. Jim Jeffords
The Democratic Senators who have said they will vote against Alito should be contacted too, to tell them to support the filibuster:
Baucus Biden Boxer Clinton Dodd Durbin Feingold Feinstein Harkin Kennedy Kerry Kohl Leahy Mikulski Murray Bill Nelson (FL) Obama Reed Reid (Democratic Senate Minority Leader - his mailbox was also full when I tried a while ago, but again, you could try a FAX or contacting him by email. Salazar Schumer Stabenow Wyden
