Not exactly a poll: There is a NEW progressive talk network...
Who would YOU like to hear, daily or weekly??? (Besides Mike Malloy, et al.)

If it's a local show in your area, give me some details about them...

I've heard several local shows in the past summer of travel to believe there's alot of talent out there....

13. Here's One From Chicago...This Is Hell...
http://www.thisishell.net/index.html

This show has been on WNUR for over 5 years and had always been ahead on a lot of interesting stories. Real good stuff.

Another is Free Speech Radio and Counterspin on Pacifica...those are national but you don't see people post about these shows here.

7. Colin McEnroe on WTIC Hartford
He's not a fiery go-fot-the-jugular Malloy/Rhodes type, but he's a liberal with a great sense of humor and a sense of the absurd.

He's on at drive time on WTIC 1080 and can be heard for a fairly large radius aound Hartford. He's also streamed on the Internet.

9. Peter B. Collins, would be a good choice
when he did fill in for Thom Hartman, his show was showcasing progressive causes from various groups.

11. John Hockenberry and comedian Chris Rock...
...might be good.

John Hockenberry had a radio show in the early 90s on NPR for two hours a day.

Chris Rock hasn't done radio as far as I know, but I'd check it out if he gave it a try.

14. There Needs To Be A Better Infrastructure
Progressive Radio has been great on idea, poor on marketing and advertising. There are many talented people who produce radio shows yet they don't coordinate, and in some cases fight one another, that has hurt the advancement of this kind of radio.

I've heard some good local talents like Lynn Cullen in Pittsburgh and Bernie Ward and Ray Talifiero in San Francisco and Jay Marvin in Denver. The problem with AAR is that many stations operated it as a "turn-key" operation and did little local programming or promotion to take the station onto the local level.

In Chicago, there are a bunch of quality on-air talents who remain silent and an AAR operation that is run on auto-pilot since the owner spent too much on the station and now doesn't want to pay for the talent.

It will be interesting to see if the new Clear Channel/Jones Network comes together as it will have a lot stronger structure than AAR ever did.

Progressive radio is far from dead...in fact, it's just starting to find its voice and voices.

Cheers...
